Schiphol 1996/1997

Post by LifelinerOne »

Hello,

I was browsing trough some old pictures because I needed one of the DDA. I thought I scan in some and share them...

ORBI Georgian Airlines was one of the first former Soviet airlines with it's own colourscheme instead of the usual Aeroflot-cheatline.
Image

SABENA was stille there and flew BAC1-11's to Schiphol...
Image

Turkish Airlines leased an Airbus A320 from Translift in a hybrid colourscheme
Image

Ales Airlines dropped out of the sky with this very exotic Yak 40. In contrary to the registration, Ales was an airline from Albania and a joint venture between an Italian and an Albanian company.
Image

And ofcourse, the picture that I needed...
Image

Hope you liked this small flashback...

Cheers!

Excellent stuff. Nice to see some pics from some of my first spotting years. If you have more, please share them if you have time. :bthumb:

Okay, I needed to scan another DDA picture, so I used my time right and scanned some more from 1996. All planes at Schiphol of course.

Next to flying the noisy BAC1-11's, SABENA was also flying noisy F28's
Image

Air Holland was still flying and was using this PH-AHI in an hybrid colourscheme. The colours are from Air Europa.
Image

The DC-8's from Affretair were very common these days, even boring. Who would have thought that we would miss them in 2007?
Image

Just as common was the B707 from Avistar. It was a very common sight at Schiphol-East.
Image

South African Airlines operated passengerflights as well as cargo flights. The passengerflights were operated with B747SP's, the cargoflights started with B742's. Later on an A300F was added and used.
Image

Air Alfa was a very common Turkish charter airline. They flew B727's and A300's. Later on Air Alfa was the "star" in a Dutch newsprogram after a flight with a B727 went wrong. Passengers needed to go out of the overwing emergency exit while the plane was still moving. Even Scramble was mentioned in the program.
Image

JAT's only DC-10 was also a regular visitor at Schiphol, always flying for operators who were short on capacity.
Image

KLM was still using Fred Olsen to haul freight with their Electra's
Image

And the last picture (and the second one I was looking for), was this beautiful and magnificent DC-4 of the DDA. The DDA received the plane in May 2006 for flights. Truly a shame that these aren't possible anymore. Also note the very cool vintage Mercedes-Benz cabrio!
Image

Well, that's it for now!

Cheers!

Let me continue this trip down Memory Lane with my final pictures of 1997 at Schiphol... There's a lot more for coming years and at other airports, so when I have time, I will start new topics with old pictures...

In 1997, British Airways still had the Landor colourscheme and was still flying the good old B737-200's. Note the additional "Manchester" titles.
Image

Balkan Air still existed and was flying Soviet metal to Schiphol like the Tu154.
Image

A resident for years was this B727 of LARMAG.
Image

The Police operated two AS350's next to the Bo105's
Image

Air UK was the second largest operator after KLM at Schiphol, flying with Fokker 50's, 100's and BAe146's.
Image

Lithuanian Airlines introduced a new livery which is shown here on a Yak 42.
Image

ORBI from Georgia was also sending the Tu134 to Schiphol
Image

NFD was the early name of what later was to become Eurowings. They operated feeder flights from Germany for the KLM.
Image

Royal from Canada operated regular charter flights with L1011's.
Image

South African still flew to Schiphol, using the great B747SP!
Image

The DC-4 ZS-NUR became PH-DDS and Schiphol-East was the scene to see two DC-4's. The white/blue one was bought to act as a source for spares for the PH-DDS. Oh, what great planes!
Image

And, of course, 1997 was the year Bill Clinton visited the Netherlands, bringing the whole flying circus of HMX-1. Here we can see one VH-3 about to land after a training flight on a warm May evening. They just did a training flight to the Malieveld in Den Haag. Note the sunset in the nose of this great helicopter!
Image

Well, hope you liked them and hope to please you with more old pictures in other topics soon!

Cheers!
