Pentagon to buy 12 F-15X fighters
Bloomberg is reporting that the Pentagon will request $1.2 billion for 12 Boeing F-15Xs in the fiscal year 2020 budget.
Sources told the business news that the jets will replace aging F-15Cs in service with the Air National Guard.

That is really great news if correct. But 1.2 billion for 12 Eagles is 100 million a piece which is 20 million more than the current price of an F-35A?Reaper wrote:Bloomberg is reporting that the Pentagon will request $1.2 billion for 12 Boeing F-15Xs in the fiscal year 2020 budget.

The idea behind the whole F-15X initiative is not to compete directly with the F-35,
but to provide the USAF with a fiscally and operationally attractive "plug and play" option
for replacing the rapidly aging F-15C/D fleet comprised of roughly 235 aircraft.
These jets will need invasive and costly upgrades in the coming years
in order to remain airworthy and relevant for front-line operations.
...and lots more to read, including several links, thruThe reality is that for many tasks,
including the homeland air sovereignty operations,
the low-observable features of an F-35 are useless.
There are many combat missions that actually benefit from a heavy fighter that can carry large stores over long ranges,
as opposed to a stealth fighter with more limited payload and range capabilities.
Israel seems to have come to this conclusion as well, incidentally.
This is where the F-15X also comes into play for the USAF.

You Dutch need to wake up and offer President Trump a deal. A real deal: OK sir, pull your troops out of nasty sandy areas, but reform the fighting 32nd fully funded by the Nederlandse overheid. He gets to save American lives, the Dutch get fighter protection, ageing Eagle drivers get jobs, Canon sells lots more cameras and later Boeing get to build new 'planes. Simples!!

That is true but not an option any more is it? I think that hey are looking for a cheaper solution as a F-15C/D replacement and was surprised by the high price-tag that’s all!Alpha Kilo One wrote:By the way.......
