Part 2 of our trip around Phoenix
In the east of Phoenix, the former Williams AirForce base has been redevelopped into Mesa Gateway Airport.
This airport is used by Allegiant Air and Swift Air. But also by a number of very active flying schools.
If you look around carefully there are some more gems to be found.
In the southeast there is the Chandler Regional airport with the usual array of light aircraft
This is a selfbuild, called Bearhawk
In the south of Phoenix the former Chandler memorial has been renamed to Gila River Airport. This aiport in Indian territory
is no longer used and the remaining residents are slowly corroding away, helped by local youth.
We were here very early in the morning which accented the atmosphere.
In the Southwest is Goodyear Airport, home again to some flying schools but also Aircraft part out and demolition companies.
Following the clock around Phoenix the next airport is Glenndale, apart from a helicopter and a couple of Beechcraft we did not find much interesting here.
Next is Luke AFB, after a lot of old stuff this is home to the hypermodern
The last airport is Buckeye, there is not much special here but for a mister Lauridsen who is collecting planes for a future museum.
There is a (small) hanger here that is reportedly stuffed full with future exhibits but also very much locked up. Some larger planes are in open storage.
I hope you enjoyed this second part
Kind regards
EC

I only have slides of the DC-4s and other propliners at Chandler Memorial / Gila River, so in principle would like to go back and take digital photos. But what with all the graffiti on them, I'm not sure I'll bother...
Thanks for all those crisp, clear photos!
