At the end of the runway, a lot of aircraft might be too high already. So my advice would be to go for the begining of the runway (Although some aircraft might also enter the runway at an intersection, so never reach the begining. IMO numbers at the end is a no-go)

Sorry to say this, but I really don't understand why numbers would be an issue on the Monday after RIAT?
Everything is known, put on at least ten different message boards and written down on the checklist that you can buy...
No way that you are going to miss anything number-wise.

For photos, you don't get everything at the other end of the runway, but the aircraft that do stay low can make some spectacular passes.

Just an example of a shot from 2009 to show you that it's not only big planes that stay low:

Regards,

Jan

PS I don't know if it's OK to put a photo here to illustrate the kind of pictures that you can take at the other end. If not, just send me a pm and I'll delete it.

Numbers are all known, but I still need to see them, now don't I?

No time to go during the show itself, so for me it's monday only, that's why.

The only thing that you could miss if you're on the other side is some choppers that might take off in the other direction. At the same time, that goes for both sides. Last year a Navy Merlin took off from the far side and did not pass the other end of the runway.

What I mean by everything is known, is that it is not necessary to read everything yourself. If you have a list and the only two German Tornado's that are present, take off, you don't need to actually read them, the serials are known. And on Monday, there's like a thousand spotters so every year the departures (serials and departure times) show up on message boards.

Those Russian Knights are only expected for the public weekend of Farnborough, which is 5 days after the RIAT. I guess they will only come to the RIAT if the RIAT will pay them enough money. It would be very nice, and I think the RIAT could use both Knights to attract more public, but it all depends on dollars, I think.

News: On Tuesday, May 29, the Air Tattoo will stage its media launch at RAF Fairford. Joining us for the event will be the RAF's solo Hawk display pilot Flt Lt Phil Bird and two RAF Hawks from RAF Valley;. Flt Lt Bird will be flying in the Blue Peter presenter Barney Harwood to help launch the event (it was Blue Peter that ran the competition to choose the Diamond Jubilee logo). Also flying in will be RAF Tucano display pilot Flt Lt Jon Bond; an MC-130 Hercules from RAF Mildenhall; Classic Flight's T55 Vampire and an historic Chipmunk with 'Royal' connections. Dropping in (weather-permitting) with a special Diamond Jubilee flag, will be the RAF Falcons parachute display team.
NEWS: For a variety of operational reasons, beyond our control, a number of US Air Force, US Marine and US Navy assets will be arriving prior to the Air Tattoo taking over the airfield on Wednesday, July 4. The Colombian Air Force aircraft will also be arriving early.
News: Please note that all the Brize Norton based RAF aircraft taking part in the proposed flypast by the RAF's current and future heavyweight airlift fleet, will not land at RAF Fairford. However, Airbus Military's A400M will be on the ground along with a second VC-10 in the static park.

A unique flypast of the RAF’s present and future giant airlift fleet is planned for this summer’s Air Tattoo. The A330 will fly with the C-130 Hercules, TriStar, C-17A, VC-10 and A400M in dramatic display of the RAF’s tactical airlift capability.
