Wauw great pics on that rainbow Bert!! I like the contrasts and the difference of light and dark below and above the rainbows!! Well done!
Here is one nice pack of clouds that came overhead Stockholm yesterday evening, I like the pattern:

#1
Image
EXIF: KM7D, 28-100@28mm, P-mode, ISO100, f11, 1/1250, +/- 0 exposure

#2 Close-up
Image
EXIF: KM7D, 28-100@60mm, P-mode, ISO100, f9, 1/1600, +/- 0 exposure

keep on taking those photos!!!!

I'd rather depict atmosphere and the 'heat of the moment' making a catchy photo than to reflect the real situation and real colours showing a boring photo.

I saw so many good pictures of lightning that I decided to try that one time. Well this night it looked like fireworks, but it was almost all behind the clouds. So a lot of lighteffects, but no lightning...

1 The first picture is blurred, because my tripod wouldn't stand still in the gusts of wind.
Image

2 Then it started to rain, so I went inside my car and made some pictures through the windshield...
Image

3 A "big one", not photoshopped, just resized.
Image
4 Same picture, but with levels set darker.
Image
5 Same picture, but -130% contrast. It almost looks like daytime, but it was 01:19 local time!
Image
6 Same picture, but levels set to "the edge of darkness".
Image
7 Same picture, but now with saturation set to maximum...

Shame that the pic is overexposed Heron! That's one big smack on the ground!
Yeah... incredible. Automatic exposure in the middle of the night and even with photoshop I can't get an acceptable picture out of it

Are you kidding? If I were to suggest one set of circumstances where automatic exposure obviously won't work, it probably would be a thunderstorm in the middle of the night...

Well... I saw so many lightflashes (it almost looked like Baghdad in '91) that I decided to let the camera sort that out. If I went with a too long exposure it would certainly over-expose when a BIG flash came; so I thought: I go for automatic, that will be no more than 30 seconds and when I get a big one, the camera will shut down by itself

Exif for that picture with big strike is:
shooting date/time: 01-09-2008 01:19:39
shooting mode: AE
shutter speed: 30
aperture value: 6,3
ISO speed: 200
focal length: 18
white balance: auto
AF mode: manual focusing

Next time I try different settings. As it is, you could say "I was fumbling in the dark"

Brilliant shot, Joost!
Curious what the settings were.
