Tickets were indeed available at the gate. When I told them I didn't have a ticket I was redirected to another checkpoint with a friendly woman who sold us tickets. Positive also was that I bypassed a lot of cars waiting in line for parking.

Re: Geilenkirchen open house 1-2 July
Hi there, visited yesterday with the wife and daughter. After a 45minute walk from parking(free) to the airfield. We saw a long line .... ( around 12.30 ), it took us little under a hour to pass all checks. It seems at some point, extra capacity has been created. As mentioned on FB. So may start with that first thing today. Toilets were far and few ... Located around the hangars. So be prepared. Static had nice items, as always at this base.
All in all a nice event, pretty well organised.

Italian Gulf is the worst to take a decent photo from. P8 is less worse.

Re: Geilenkirchen open house 1-2 July
Although there were some flaws in the organisation it was mentioned on the on http://www.35jahre-nato-awacs.de/faqs (3rd line from below) that against a small amount of money you could park ON the base.gozoman wrote: An unpleasent surprise was that at leaving the base for every car €4 had to paid. I haven't read that on the ticket.
