I don't think it is a joke though. It was also on the airforces website.

You mean to say that the serial you reported here was on the air forces website? If so, a link would be useful. Otherwise it could just be a mistake by one of the sources.

Sorry, no the serial was not on af.mil
Probably a mistake by a source indeed. If so, it will soon become known.

The c/n of the 81-0962 is A10-0657. Does this picture mean anything?

Watch '4-0657'. I mean, has it anything to do with the c/n

what you see on the picture is a holder for bombs or rockets, it can be replaced in a hour, it says nothing! and its probebly a ordernumber :wink

Just after posting Stefan's photo proof on my blog (with his kind permission), an anonymous source told me: ...it was 81-963 (That means A-10C 81-0963). I'm still trying to get in contact with this source for at least some ID verifications, without disclosing this source. May be this source is related to USAF...
