I was told papers of HH-60M showed C/4-3 Avn.

Under the CAB structure, Medevac companies are assigned to the General Support Aviation Battalions (GSAB). For 3rd AVN the GSAB unit is 2-3rd AVN and the Medevac unit is C/2-3rd AVN. However for the European deployment it looks like elements of this Medevac company are temporary assigned to C/4-3rd AVN. In January 2015, about 50 soldiers of C/2-3rd AVN deployed to Afghanistan, probably without helicopters. But this is most likely the reason why the Medevac unit did not deploy fully to Europe, but only partially and under control of the leading unit for the European deployment (4-3rd AVN).

very difficult to read the tail numbers due to lots of trees and heatwaves
both Apaches had the last three digids in white out line.

It's nice to see a log again from here!
I'm still glad I didn't make a stop that afternoon (it was either Illesheim or Ansbach), but I did see some helo's parked on the apron from the Bundesstrasse 13. Did you count the numbers of Apaches on the ramp, or where these the only 3?
