Recent mention of Lynx ‘83+55’ in the Wreck & Relics section of Scramble 499 has re-ignited a question as to its c/n:
’83+55’ was at the rear of the training hangar presentation at the Tag de Budeswehr Nordholz in 2019. Access to the machine wasn’t possible at the time to check the doorpost data plate.
Issue 499 quotes 350 as the c/n, but the Scramble database quotes the same c/n for Lynx 235 (2) in the museum at Gardermoen. Presumably, this latter aircraft was rebuilt with a new airframe and donor parts from 235 (1) after its accident in 1988.
So, what is the true c/n (and history) of ‘83+55’, please?

Re: Lynx ‘83+55’ c/n?
I have visited this training hangar (which included a Sea King as well if my memory serves me well) during a base visit a decade ago. If I recall well, multiple c/n were found at that time and none really made sense, for which we concluded it was a (fairly complete) composite training aid made out of spare parts. I will check my notes again and let u know.

Sjoerd, I'd appreciate it. Many thanks, Freeman
Re: Lynx ‘83+55’ c/n?
I've just checked my pics again from 9-9-2008, which showed a Sea Lynx (so not the newer Super Lynx model!) model '83+54' (so not 83+55!) with a c/n 540 on its tail. A c/n (line number?) plate was found on one of the panels as S2/WA/582. On another panel inside the engine compartment the serial 83+07 was written with '07' in a handwriting, and marking the serial numbers of the 2 engines. I will try to add some pics here later on.
Scramble however does not record any 83+54 and the c/n seems quite off from the original batch Sea Lynxes (roughly between c/n 220-345) and the Super Lynxes (roughly between c/n 388-429).
I also found these online pictured by Nils Berwing in 2018, clearly showing these are 2 seperate GIA airframes and not the same one!

So who can provide more info on these 2 queries?

Re: Lynx ‘83+55’ c/n?
Thanks again Sjoerd.
Based on your observations, could '83+54' be based on the cast-off airframe from the original mk.88 83+07, which the Scramble database postulates might be at Nordholz? The 'c/n 540' painted on the tail, would be more appropriate on S.Korean Wildcat 16-0606 though.
From Nils photo, '83+55' looks to be a later example as it has the receiver on the rear fuselage as the Super Lynx have.
Thoughts, anyone?

Re: Lynx ‘83+55’
Hi all. Just to add, a comment to this thread. On two separate visits to Donauworth , 17/05/2010 and 18/02/2013. I saw a Lynx training frame, it was complete, but made up from various parts. I noted it as 83+55. It was reported to consist of a good amount of ex KNL 235.
I may, also have even seen it on a third visit.
This, doesn't improve on the above information. But is another sighting of 83+55. I didn't realise there was also an 83+54 around.
Terry.
