Spent 40 minutes here from 1 PM today. As we arrived, a TBM700 came in and 3 Mirages in A/A configuration went up:
606/3-JC
630/3-XD
638/3-IJ
JC and XD were carrying mission markings, only JC was wearing a sqn badge.
They dogfighted overhead for 20 minutes and returned. Immediately followed by the TBM's departure and a 2-ship 2000Ds. I didn't await their recovery. Gendarmerie came after 5 minutes (EC1/3 crew saw me driving up and down behind their squadron building as I was watching the take-offs) and asked me friendly not to cross the road (D904) to the airbase side, but taking pictures of the planes from the dirtroad where the tree logs always are is fine. Since the light was getting worse and I had my wife and baby with me, I only waited for the 3-ships' recoveries, and they each made a nice overshoot. Apologies for the weird double watermark, no idea how that happened:

Spotting is a good idea, photography close to the base is not.Goldenflyer wrote:Nice photos, !

As long as you stick to the rules and treat the Gendarmes with respect, you're fine. There's no difference between spotting and photography in the approach; both are prohibited from observation points where infrastructure is in view. You can drive very close to the shelter area of the Navarre squadron (which I did just to check which runway was in use and if I could hear anything taxi) but this makes them very nervous. Just go to the approach, behave, stay away from the fence and cooperate with the law. I took these photos after the police visit. I told them I was going to take photos and they said it's fine, as long as you stay on the north side of the road (which sucks early mornings and the sun crosses the centreline later in the afternoon, so cloudy days are preferred - although there is an alternative...
).
