Mil: Brazil questions
Hi all,
Just returned from a holiday in Brazil. I was able to visit some (aviation) related places. Would be great if anyone can help me with some questions.
Visited the great Museu Aeroespacial in Rio. Great selection of aircraft. I was lucky with a C-105A (2803) that was dropping para's while I was there.
While entering the museum / base, we drove past a open shed ( 22°53'1.40"S - 43°23'20.68"W). There was an AT-26 (4499), an UH-1 and a camo C-95. Nothing can be seen on the UH-1 as it is missing the tailboom and only a single 8 on the C-95 can be seen as it is missing the tail as well. Anyone for these missing numbers??
The museum was rebuilding the large hangars, so different planes were moved to other hangars. Overall a great museum with a lot of aircraft.
Flying in and out of Rio Galeao int airport a number of transport planes could be seen while taxiing. Does anyone know of stored aircraft being present (still) on the ramp ( 22°49'21.18"S - 43°14'30.84"W)? I think I also saw 2 P-3's, but I guess these were operational.
Flying in and out of Curitiba international airport, I saw what I thought was a C-115 stored. It is visible at 25°31'48.35"S - 49°10'53.20"W. Does anyone know what this one is?
Any help with this will be highly appreciated!

I have UH-1H 8683 and C-95 2155, not sure how that matches your '8' though.Shirley wrote:While entering the museum / base, we drove past a open shed ( 22°53'1.40"S - 43°23'20.68"W). Thanks Erwin!!
Also not sure about the C-95. Strange one....
Regarding Curitiba, shame it's a civil one. It looked military

Re: Mil: Brazil questions
Hi Erik,
The 2155 used to be preserved at the Instituto de Medicina Aeroespacial Brigadeiro Médico Roberto Teixeira, it was white and it was not more than a hulk by 2017 and was next to that shed.
The Xavante is indeed 4499, go to this google maps link, scroll down and you will encounter images of the aircraft in this shed: https://www.google.nl/maps/place/Afonso ... authuser=0 and scroll down the photos.
At Galeão the Hercules and P-3s are on overhaul and sometimes are parked outside for quite a while. There is a fueslage of 2465 that was sold for scrap but should still be present.
Any logs are much appreciated, you'll be amazed how sparse logs are from Brazil
best regards,

Re: Mil: Brazil questions
Thanks Erwin!!!
The Xavante was the easier one as I have a picture with number clearly visible.
When you scroll down in the link, you can actually see the C-95 as well (this specific picture; https://www.google.nl/maps/place/Afonso ... authuser=0). Same shed and it has the number 8 on the nose with what looks like a bit of tape behind it. Would that make it 81???
Then I saw this picture as well; https://www.google.nl/maps/place/Afonso ... authuser=0
That one is the 2155 I guess. So "mine" is a different one then as I have not seen the "55" at all. It was not near the shed.
Will prepare a log and share here soon.

Re: Mil: Brazil questions
As promissed a small log of what I have been able to see during my holiday in Brazil.
As mentioned before, I did not go for planes specifically, so everything I could see was a welcome addition to the log book.
18/12/2019
Starting off with the Air Force museum in Rio at Dos Afonsos air base. In the taxi on the way there I already saw something flying and I was happy to see that there was a C-105A performing para drops during the 2 hours I was there. Also saw a C-95 all the way in the back on the operational side, but with 30+ degrees the picture only shows haze....
C-105A 2803
C-95 ??
Then the museum. The main / big / long hangar is being refurbished, so a lot of planes were moved. I hope to provide a good overview of the current places of the aircraft.
Entering the base you drive past an open shed with 3 planes;
C-95 ..8. BrazilAF Instructional?
AT-26 4499 BrazilAF Instructional
UH-1H 8683 BrazilAF Instructional
When you come towards the main hangar, you are now greated by an F-5EM (22°53'1.03"S - 43°23'27.21"W)
F-5EM 4881 BrazilAF
The outside part of the museum consisted of the following aircraft
SH-3B N-3029 /29 BrazilN 1
C-115 2371 BrazilAF 1
C-130E 2453 BrazilAF 1
A-26C 5159 /10 BrazilAF 1
C-95 2150 BrazilAF 1
C-91 2504 BrazilAF 1
CM-170 196 /"1720" FAF 2
F-2000C 4948 BrazilAF 2
F-103D 4904 BrazilAF 2
YA-1 4201 BrazilAF 2
P-47D 4120? /A6 BrazilAF 2 marked as 419663
P-47D 4184 /B4 BrazilAF 2 marked as 226766
AT-6C 1262 BrazilAF 2
F-5B 4800 BrazilAF 2
P-16A 7016 BrazilAF 2
P-15 7010 BrazilAF 2
H-34 8733 BrazilAF 2
UH-1H 8668 /68 BrazilAF 2
A-29A 5701 BrazilAF 3
YT-25 1830 BrazilAF 3
These are positioned at the following points; 1 = 22°52'51.44"S - 43°23'16.36"W, 2 = 22°52'48.13"S - 43°23'12.41"W, 3 = 22°52'48.39"S - 43°23'8.90"W
The hangar opposite of position 3 had the following aircraft in them, but I could only look throught a small window;
TF-33A 4364 BrazilAF Maintenance Hangar
T-6G 1617 BrazilAF Maintenance Hangar - dismantled
O-1?? BrazilAF Maintenance Hangar - dismantled
C-45 491 ChileAF Maintenance Hangar - dismantled
?? BrazilAF Maintenance Hangar (looks more like a biplane) - dismantled
Officially not accessible, but as you do, go for a small walk and pretend you belong there;
C-46A 2058 BrazilAF
AT-26 4462 BrazilAF
C-47 2015 BrazilAF
AT-26A 4634 BrazilAF
TF-7 4309 BrazilAF
F-103E 4913 /AN BrazilAF
P-95A 7050 BrazilAF
VC-96 2116 BrazilAF
T-37C 0922 BrazilAF
VC-90 2101 BrazilAF
R-20 6085 /85 BrazilAF
VU-93 2113 BrazilAF
F-80 4201 BrazilAF
These were clearly all moved away from the long hangar and moved very close to each other ( 22°52'45.79"S - 43°22'58.35"W)
The hangar opposite of this spot luckily was open. So as nobody was looking I was able to sneak in and take pictures and note the following;
F-8 4460 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
T-28 50202 /N-703 BrazilN Hangar - temp storage?
P-16E 7037 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
A-1A 5514 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
U-7 2632 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
J4F-2 2680 /14 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
C-41 2932 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
YC-97 2000 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
O-3 3182 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
U-42 2978 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
G-180 0155 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
YL-42 3120 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
BT-15 1072 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
G-19 0151 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
Back to the main / long hangar, the following aircraft were still in there;
C-47 2009 BrazilAF Long Hangar
L-19E 3155 BrazilAF Long Hangar
T-21 0789 BrazilAF Long Hangar
PT-19 0500 BrazilAF Long Hangar
S-16 6534 /"6529" BrazilAF Long Hangar
H-13J 8510 BrazilAF Long Hangar
C-10A 6527 BrazilAF Long Hangar
VH-4 8571 BrazilAF Long Hangar
C-119G 2305 BrazilAF Long Hangar
UH-2A N-7039 BrazilN Long Hangar
A.75L3 K132 BrazilAF Long Hangar
In the official entrance building (the one with the detailed information and explanations) a Harvard was on show;
T-6G 1559 BrazilAF
Not bad for a quick visit and especially as most of the aircraft were officially not visible.
Driving along the fence, towards the East a UH-1 can be seen at one of the gates;
H-1H 8660 BrazilAF
19/12/2019
The next day I flew to Sao Paolo. At Rio Galeao IAP at the military gate the Andover is still there and can be seen while driving towards the terminal buildings
C-91 2502 BrazilAF
20/12/2019
Spending Christmas in Sao Jose Dos Campos I knew there were some opportunities for additional sightings. Firstly driving to the North-East on the BR-116 a Tucano can be seen near the gate of the Air Force ( 23°12'17.39"S - 45°52'56.84"W).
YT-27 1300 BrazilAF
This was a nice addition as I had not expected this (bad preperation )
Main goal for today was Taubate. A great visit for a couple of hours with not a bad score and great opportunity for pictures. Unfortunately the dark colour scheme isn't the most attractive,,,

The HM-1's marked with * were all stored in the main hangar of the squadron (North-East) and are all waiting for an upgrade.
Next up was the museum at Sao Jose Dos Campos, near the Embraer factory. Nice little gathering of Embraer planes

Yes it is, I think it was removed and scrapped in 2017 or 2018; although I did not see an auction for that.Shirley wrote: Then I saw this picture as well; That one is the 2155 I guess. So "mine" is a different one then as I have not seen the "55" at all. It was not near the shed.

Wow, you walked all the way to the PAMA-AF area, past the ATC tower, kudos!Shirley wrote: Officially not accessible, but as you do, go for a small walk and pretend you belong there;
C-46A 2058 BrazilAF
AT-26 4462 BrazilAF
C-47 2015 BrazilAF
AT-26A 4634 BrazilAF
TF-7 4309 BrazilAF
F-103E 4913 /AN BrazilAF
P-95A 7050 BrazilAF
VC-96 2116 BrazilAF
T-37C 0922 BrazilAF
VC-90 2101 BrazilAF
R-20 6085 /85 BrazilAF
VU-93 2113 BrazilAF
F-80 4201 BrazilAF
These were clearly all moved away from the long hangar and moved very close to each other ( 22°52'45.79"S - 43°22'58.35"W)
The hangar opposite of this spot luckily was open. So as nobody was looking I was able to sneak in and take pictures and note the following;
F-8 4460 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
T-28 50202 /N-703 BrazilN Hangar - temp storage?
P-16E 7037 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
A-1A 5514 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
U-7 2632 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
J4F-2 2680 /14 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
C-41 2932 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
YC-97 2000 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
O-3 3182 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
U-42 2978 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
G-180 0155 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
YL-42 3120 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
BT-15 1072 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
G-19 0151 BrazilAF Hangar - temp storage?
Anything still present in the compound adjacent the far end of the ramp? It used to hold some dumped C-95 and VU-9.
The storage hangar and maintenance hangar of the museum are normally off limits too. Some airframes have not been identified for years.
So no candidate for the other L-19 yet. Unless it was a different type of aircraft. Was it green or white?
The situation is obviously very fluent here. Hopefully the work will proceed fast so everybody can enjoy the museum without having to go on a walkabaout
best regards,
Erwin

Re: Mil: Brazil questions
Hi Erwin,
As I could see the bunch of aircraft past the ATC tower of course I wanted to go there. There was a fence put up, but people were walking in and out. My girlfriend (who is Brazilian) helped to find someone who could help and confirm I could walk there. Then I just started walking
I was stopped once by a very friendly guy who actually spoke English. Told him someone said it was ok and then he was ok with it. After I had been in the hangar and was walking back, a military police pickup passed me. They turned around and the 4 guys inside (with automatic machine guns) asked me what I was doing there. At least I guess as my Portuguese isn't great (yet). So I just pointed towards where I was going and all good
I would not see anything in the compound. This was mainly because the C-46A was in front of the compound....
Will send you some pictures of the maintenance hangar, so you can have a look.

Re: Mil: Brazil questions
Hi, I visited the museum on the 9th Feb 2020, I checked out the shed by the gate on foot and the E110 without a tail is c/n 110168 which makes it '2287', the 87 is actually visible on the port side of the nose, but the C/N is definitely correct.
