Short Japan trip, friday Chitose in snow (pics, last day)
This afternoon we got back from 6 nice days in Japan.
After x-mas Arno K. and I were in contact to see if we could fly somewhere to enjoy some good aviation photography. After a few minutes we decided that Japan is the place to be. We wanted to try to get to Misawa and Chitose for Snow & Sun pics. Besides that a flying blue RF-4 was a goal. A report of our trip will appear in the GRAS magazine.
We arrived in Narita Sunday the 29th. Unfortunately the weather in the north sucked so we had to change plans and follow the sun. The predictions for Hyakuri where good on Monday. After some wreck hunting on Sunday we started our trip here. There was a lot of activity and the blue Rhino flew! Here are some quickly edited random results:

In the afternoon we left for Utsonomya. I will publish these pics later and first have a sleep now. Hope you like the ones so far.

Short Japan trip, monday Utsonomya (pics day 1)
In the afternoon we took the one hour drive north to Kita Utsonomya. It was worth the drive (and leaving behind the Phantoms , choices, choices ).
After photographing the preserved a/c we drove up and down the road along the runway for some good shots. The first 3 a/c where under maintenance with Fuji. More a/c where present there including a few T-7's. The Chinook was a visitor I guess.... (cant find the base to which the code HGP IV belongs).

Short Japan trip, teusday Akeno-Gifu-Komaki (pics day 2)
A few days later we needed ski's myself but more about that later.... .SquAdmin wrote:Wow, that UH-60 on ski's!
After our visit to Utsonomiya we directly drove westwards to follow the sun (instead of north to Misawa where there would be no sun the next day). It was a long and sleepy drive because of the jet in our legs but it was worth the (very cold) visit at Akeno in the morning:

After a few hours in Akeno we quickly left for Gifu in the hope to see some special aircraft or a Phantom. The X-2 (of which' excistence I did only hear a few weeks before) did not fly but I was very happy with the old prototype C-1!

There was not to much activity here and a lot of wind so after 2 hours we drove to Komaki for some late afternoon pics in the hope a blue Hercules would arrive. It was a very nice and relaxed visit and we stayed until after sunset.

We booked a room in a hotel in Hamamatsu which is a tw hour drive from Komaki. Meanwhile we found out the X-2 was suppose to fly today but because of the wind the flight was cancelled . A new theory was born soon.....

Short Japan trip, wednesday X-2 :-) (pics day 3)
Thanks for the comments!tjeu wrote:Great pictures !!
Normally I try to post pics every day but it is a bit busy at work.... sorry.
Anyway, on the way to Hamamatsu a new theory was born.... If the X-2 did not fly today because of the wind it will fly tomorrow if the weather forecast is ok....
The next morning we took the 2 hours drive to Gifu again and only saw Hamamatsu from the passing by .
The weather was great and soon we saw something white/red pass through the trees .

Gifu gave us a great kick! After the X-2 landed we left for Hamamatsu... Once arrived there was no activity but we did not care too much. The trip was great and I quickly visited the museum before heading to Shizuhama.

I was very happy with the Mt Fuji pics, I passed the mountain a few times in recent years but never saw it.... Not too many T-7's where active but we managed to catch a few. On our way to Atsugi we visited some wrecks... (one on the rooftop of a "hospital"). It was a great quality day .
