As expected not a lot to report movement wise from this small island in the Outer Hebrides.
I arrived on the 12th around 1000 from Glasgow on DHC6 G-HIAL with 4 other passengers and returned on the 13th at 1230 on DHC6 G-SGTS with 16 others.
I`d highly recommend a visit for the experience of landing/departing at this unique airport which is the only one in the world with scheduled flights operating from a beach. If the weather plays ball some great pictures can be taken of the aircraft on the beach.
The nearby island of Vatersay holds the remains of a Catalina which crashed many years ago. Vatersay can be reached by crossing a causeway at the southern end of Barra.
Cars can be hired for £35 for 24 hours and collected from the staff at the airport cafe. They didn`t ask for a credit card or look at my license! Flights are currently available at roughly half price til the end of March.
