Kadex 2016 (KZ MOD program information)

On the KZ MOD site the following information was published today (google translate):

At the air base of Astana produced daily training flights of aerobatic teams of Kazakhstan's Air Force in preparation for the IV International exhibition of arms and military equipment KADEX-2016. During the exhibition, 4 and 5 June, participants and visitors will be demonstrated performance aerobatic team "Zhetysu" on the Su-27, the group leader - Colonel Timur Omarov, led - lieutenant Nurlan and Arslan Orazov Galimov, captain Ruslan McAdam. Also, viewers will be able to see the single flying a fighter plane Su-30cm by Aslan Kulbasova Major and Major Vladimir Tkach. Single and group acrobatics in the EU-145 helicopters demonstrate colonel Talgat Syzdykov and Erken Dzhumagaliev. During the opening night of group aerobatics on Su-27 will be headed by the commander of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan SVO Air Force Major General Dauren Kosanov. In one of the training-in-Chief of Air defense forces of Kazakhstan Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Aviation Nurlan Ormanbetov personally demonstrated single flying on a plane Su-27, demonstrating skills to the younger generation of aviators. These flights are in addition to the aerobatic capabilities of aircraft show the audience the successful and full development of Kazakh pilots of modern aircraft and helicopters. Also during the exhibition our pilots have the opportunity to make trial flights of lethal devices, which will be presented at the exhibition - on combat training aircraft Yak-130 helicopters "ANSAT" and the Mi-35 military transport aircraft A-400, and others.

Hi all,

I already visited KADEX in 2012, but with my girlfriend being away for three weeks combined with a longing for Russian built aircraft and the knowledge that many new aircraft have been delivered since 2012, a return visit was planned. And it turned out to be very worthwile again!
This is a ‘quick and dirty’ log, but as always everything given is actually read off unless between (brackets).

We flew via Kiev-Borispol, where some Ukrainian mil were seen, but a log of that really needs some researching first. We arrived very early morning in Astana, went to the hotel to freshen up, get 2 hours of sleep and breakfast, and then went to the airport again. Registering went very smooth this time, unlike in 2012, so soon after arriving we walked on the static. We had no clue what participants to expect, but there was enough hardware to satisfy at least most visitors. My main regret was the absence of Kazakh Mi-24s, but you can’t have them all. The atmosphere was very friendly, and with a press or visitor badge also the operational platforms could be visited. The first day the guards were still a bit itchy regarding pictures of the flightline, but that soon relaxed during the show. When the show officially closed on Sunday afternoon though, the sweeping was done very strictly and negotiations weren’t possible.

I’ll try to divide the log in different areas, and all aircraft were there for the whole four days unless mentioned differently. The civil stuff is left out by the way.

And last but not least there were two An-24s or An-26s stored in a field behind the hangars at the civil side. If somebody knows their id, I would love to hear it.

While in Kazakhstan the three of us wanted to use the opportunity to catch a few more Russian aircraft, so on Saturday we flew to Almaty, rented a car there and visited a few airfields. The day started rather slow, with a delayed flight of 2,5 hrs, a reserved rental car that took over an hour to show up and a satnav in Cyrillic, but around 13 h we finally were underway. The delay meant we had to skip Zheitigen and some W&R unfortunately.
When landing at Almaty you can already see some of the mil and stored aircraft if you are on the right side of the plane. The following was seen while taxiing and from the terminal.

Reception was very friendly here, only restriction was no photography (apart from the two preserved aircraft) unfortunately. But all aircraft on the field were shown, and checking connumbers was no problem. We were also offered a ride in a Yak-18, but due to time constraints we had to pass on that… The five dumped Mi-2s are in a seperate compound near the gate. We had permission to look around here, but the guard at the entrance thought otherwise and made us leave. If somebody knows the registrations of the missing Hoplites, please let me know!
Next it was time for some military hardware again. This was done by a classic ‘hit and run’.

There is a disused petrol station opposite the side of the Border Guard, which gives great views. Unfortunately we weren’t allowed on the field, but the score was still very nice. With this medical services’Mi-26 in the pocket and the one at KADEX we got their whole fleet  There are also still some stored An-30s here, but they are very faded and couldn’t be read off.
By now time was really running out, so we headed back to Almaty. A seat at the window was requested and given, so with the aid of a camera some more aircraft were identified. Only the additional ones compared to this morning are listed below.

Hey Patrick,

A small correction w.r.t. the stored Yak-52 at Baiserke, this was the 13 wh i.s.o. 23 wh. Further details I will check the upcoming week. Thanks for your fast log and enjoy Turkey for now.

Hmm, ok, I have 23 wh in my notebook though. One typo that was pointed out to me: the c\n of EC145 10 is 9605.

13 Yak-52 at Baiserke was the camo one hidden away next to the row of AN2's
The camo was painted over, couldn't find a c/n number.

We did catch the oppertunity to get that flight in the Yak18T...10 mins for 20 euro...my first arobatic flight!

Next we come back to fly on that An2!

Still need to sort 2500+ pics....As i seen your list I do have some more updates.

Hi Bas,

The camo AN-26's where 01 and 03 white (both Border Guard i.s.o. AF), the An-28 was the UP-AN2804.

The "white" I mentioned was regarding the serial, not the colours of the aircraft....! :-D Both An-26s are in light camouflage, as Stefan said they belong to the Border Guard.
01 white was read off, 03 white was based on the Border Guard having serials 01 till 04 and having seen 02 and 04 at other locations on the same day. So 03 makes most sense, unless you are 100% sure about 09? Then they might have a new one....

The stored Tu-134 has no registration on it unfortunately. We are still trying to find out the id. The An-28 was already in my log, but is a pure civil one only unfortunately. I left out the government stuff on purpose by the way, but forgot to mention that.

The stored Tu-134A-3 has 'T3404' on the red engine inlet covers, as discovered when I taxied past the ac on leaving Monday. The color scheme is the same as for UP-T3404 which was stored on the southwest side 2 years ago. So 1 + 1 =:-)

As to the 2 Antonovs stored in the field at TSE, I suggest that one would be UN-47299, an An-24RV. This one was also stored, next to UP-T3404 in May 2014. Right next to it at that time was an ex-Aeroflot An-24 or 26, with the faded Soviet flag still on the tail. I couldn't read it back then as the reg had faded too much....

Hi CJ - the two Antonovs behind the hangars at TSE are mentioned in the past as UN-47186 (An24B) and UN-47299 (An24PB).
