Indonesia.70 yrs TNI-AU (photo), Day 5, last day, Halim
Last week we left for Indonesia to try to photograph the TNI-AU aircraft that would participate in the 70th anniversary of the TNI-AU (Indonesian Air Force) on april 9th. Indonesia is high on my list. I visited the country a few years ago but only photographed training and transport aircraft. We hope to catch some F-16's and Sukhois (the Tigers don't participate anymore ). I was travelling with Marco Penning who is well know here and arranged a great trip! He suggested we try Bandung on the first day because normally the transport aircraft participate in the flight pass from this base.
Alsmost no operational aircraft where seen here so after a few hours we drove back to Jakarta (via Bogor).
Two EC.120's landed:
TNI-AU has a maintenance facility here. Two C-130's where stored here. This is one of them.
Another one is being prepaired for overhaul. We arrived too late to read the serial, the toxic paint remover already removed the serial:
In the hangar we saw two Herks in overhaul and read some other stored aircraft on different spots on the airfield (DHC.5, Galeb etc.). On our we to Bogor we passed this Alouette in the mountains. It is a memorial for an Alouette that crashed here in the 60's.
Our first day was a bit disappointing. MP heard most of the fighter aircraft landed at Halim so we would try our luck at Halim the day after.

Indeed, looks like the whole plane will be decomposed in a couple of weeksStratofreighter wrote:Nasty stuff that paint remover...stipjes wrote: Another one is being prepaired for overhaul. We arrived too late to read the serial, the toxic paint remover already removed the serial:

At least they have enough ventilation....Alpha Kilo One wrote:Fortunately it is carried out in a protective and eclosed environment.

My gosh.
It was my first thought too. All this liquid is just seeping into the ground. It wouldn"t surprise me if people living next to the base are farming their vegetables and fruit in that soil.

5 day Indonesia trip. 70 years TNI-AU. Day 2, Halim
Yep. The Indonesian "green left" party will not be happy with this (if they excist). I also think I see crops under the tail of the C-130.... (it might be the A-1315 btw).Wildpicture wrote:At least they have enough ventilation....Alpha Kilo One wrote:Fortunately it is carried out in a protective and eclosed environment.

On day 2 (last Wednesday) we go up early for the rehearsal. Thanks to MP and his friends we found a good spot near 24 on a roof. Unfortunately all the aircraft landed on 06 . It will be a challenge to get decent landing shots.
I cannot get the colours right at the moment, still need PS lessons but the hazy weather in the morning does not help....
After rehearsal ended we left for Pondok Cabe. We saw a lot of a/c from different forces.
On our way back we visited Halim again in search for a good landing spot on the western site for the 06. After we found it a C.295 arrived. The haze was gone....
In the next Take Off (GRAS magazine) I will publish a more comprehensive report.

70 years TNI-AU, landing shots. Day 3, Halim
Haha Thanks. Here is day 3. We got more experienced. First we shot on the hot (37 degrees) roof with no wind and after the rehearsal we raced to the 06.CJ van der Ende wrote:Woooooo Stipjes!!!! Daar zit lekker spul tussen!! Ik kan niet wachten op dag 3 en 4!!!

I will skip day 4, it was a Friday so no flying. In the evening Erwin Dikemen joined us. He got enthusiastic after reporting on our first days. Saturday was the actual celebration and the last opportunity to catch the Grob120's and Hawks.
After the flight pass we still missed the F-16A's. With Marco's and the driver's relaxed skills we got on base and caught some extra stuff:
One hour later we got back to the hotel. While Marco intergrated with the locals I got a 75 minutes massage.... Completely relaxed we got in our flight to AMS. Erwin had to wait another 12 hours. It was a great small trip. I hope you liked it!
I hope you will read the full report in Take Off.
Marco thanks for the great trip!
Now we focus on the next trip
