Forum rules
This is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum. Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post. In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.). Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so. |

The engine running MiG-21 is interesting! It appears that they are kept in an airworthy condition!Istvan wrote:Thracian Thunder 16 - bulgarian and USA.ANG exercise. US. ANG 74. sq. A-10C gound attack aircraft, and Bulgarian Air Force, MiG-29B, UB and Su-25K, UBK and Anti aircrafts units.

Just some remarks to add:
Technically the unit is 74 EFS (Expeditionary FS) for the deployment, with 74 FS (23 Wg Moody) as the core unit. However all units at Moody contributed aircraft, maintenance crew and pilots, also from the (4)76 FG, an AFRES unit stationed at Moody.
The event was Thracian Thunder press day, with three MiG-29s, three Su-25s and 8 A-10s flying.
...and yes the remaining MiG-21s (3 single +1 UM) are being kept in airworthy condition by the maintenance crews 'just in case we need them again'. However they are not certified to fly at this time since some time limited items have expired 31/12/15, but hey since when was MLA145 introduced over there

I'm sorry that I did not answer so far, but Paul answered the questions well. The remains of 74 FSQ in Bulgaria for three months, but it may be deployed to other countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
One of the Bulgarians sharp marksmanship range will also participate. One battalion of the Bulgarian land units Fly to CAS. The Bulgarian MiG-29s, three were in the zone. Two plus NATIANDS was alert.
