SKYHAWK 1 is working Nordhorn rangeI see a Discovery Skyhawk in the area. It either seems to be working the Nordhorn range but it might as well be in a holding pattern waiting for the microlight to clear the Meppen area

Hello Niek,
thanks for the interesting information, I am not very familiar with either of them.
The Skyhawk is still working the Nordhorn range then.
Edit 15.20: now heading back to Wittmund

Meppen range is 1hour drive from my home,so i would be very happy to go over there to do some spotting.
The troubble is,i dont know were to go.
Uve been in the neighbourhood at the site where the m48 tanks are.
And this years open day of the bundeswehr.
Bur when i want to see the aircraft, were should i go?

Re: Meppen Range 2015
Google Schlagbruckenerweg in Meppen and you will see an "airport" at GE.
That's the heliport.
Were to stand to spot the visiting aircraft I don't know.

Re: Meppen Range 2015
Dear All,
Today I've been to Meppen and I would like to give you a bit of a warning.
While standing next to the airfield, we were visited by security twice.
The first visit was from a security patrol that was sent by the main security control center. They had seen us with our cameras and got suspicious. This patrol made clear to us that it was not appreciated that we took pictures, even though we told them we did not take pictures of infrastructure. They also took our details from our passports (let's see what they will do with that).
Half an hour later we were visited by the head of security who was more strict/firm in telling us that they did not like us taking pictures over there and that it could be seen as espionage, depending on what we photographed. Obviously we explained European law and jurisdiction, which states that anything you can see from public terrain may also be photographed. In return however, he stated that the road we were standing on is only accessible for permit holders. This is correct and this is something they can use to send you away, call the police, lock you up in Guantanamo Bay
Meanwhile I also contacted the press officer to see if they could give permission, but I got this response:
Grundsätzlich ist das Fotografieren militärischer Einrichtungen untersagt. Wenn Sie dennoch fotografieren, setzen Sie sich dem Verdacht aus, militärische Einrichtungen auszuspähen.
Translated this means: The photography of military installations is generally speaking forbidden. Should you still take pictures, then you make yourself suspicious to espionage of military installations.
It's very clear that they are not used to spotters at an installation where normally only cannons are fired, it all sounds like going back to the 80s.
So therefore I would like to warn you all and also ask you to be sensible: Don't loiter next to the airfield, especially not at the fence. The best is to just do a hit and run and spend the rest of your time at the range (over there they don't really seem to care). I'm not saying that they will take action, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
Regards, Niek
p.s. They have cameras at the fence, so they can see you there.
