RIP to the pilot but not 1601 as I have seen photo proof that 1601 landed at Lajes this evening.

Answering my own question, it was F-16C 1609 that crashed.

1601 is at Lajes on delivery yes, with three others. Check out the Lajes page for updates from Thunderbolt in the next few days.

The 1601 can be clearly seen taxiing on the Iraqi video from their arrival in Baghdad.
