What a load of Russian bullsh*t-propaganda on that Sputniknews-site! If that's what the Russians really believe, the cold war is back, worse than ever before.

Thanks. Yes I noticed, but it's still shocking to see.
If you like to know how this all started, I can recommend two books written by Peter 'd Hamecourt (former NOS-correspondent in Russia): 'Rusland in oorlog -met zichzelf en de wereld' part 1 and 2. I'm reading them now. He describes how the cold war and propaganda war intensified after the Crimean was taken. Including the shoot-down of MH17 and the war in Ukraine. The Russian are prepared for war in a way the Germans were in 1930s. Seeing Russian news sites like RT and Sputnik proves that Peter is right. There are hardly any independent media left in Russia: papers and sites that ask critical questions are deemed '5th column' and taken down.
A good (but long) read is this article in the New York Times of a few days ago: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/07/magaz ... .html?_r=0. It shows how the Russian government is spreading hatred worldwide via the internet.
This all worries me. :(

So, Putin spent 12% in 2008... And yet, fighters aren't mass produced, bombers still lack funding... Either the budget is very, very small or the running costs of the force already in place are skyrocketing.

Perhaps the fact she was flying over Moscow last month has something to do with the fact that there aren't many airworthy examples around??? :?

And why would they risk a war against a major part of the rest of the world? What would they gain by doing so? Neither party would benefit from such a situation.
Personally I find it really annoying that people start talking this kind of second cold war language again. Apparently people haven't learned anything from the first cold war (wich was kind of a big misunderstanding).
It is still funny to see that the western world finds it dead normal that they can put weapons right next to Russia, do some spying, air-police stuff etc. and find it strange when Russia doesn't like that. Try putting (Russia) weaponry right next the USA and see how they will respond. Americans would go totally mental.

I totally agree with you and knowing some including officials over there, I don't think that we are so far from each other when it comes about state of mind.

Actually we are a bit blind over here : can't we see that the real and current danger for us comes from the South and south east (and it is not the Russians who created a mess in those areas, places like Irak, extending now to Syria and in Libya, since 12-15 years...) or is it just not politically correct to say ?
Russia and us share the same enemies...
We'd better fight them together in spite of playing war games in the Baltic or Black seas zones.

Well, Cyrano de Bergerac would answer "this is a little bit short Monsieur !". :)

I could just reply "yes we do".

But I prefer to say "each of us has the right to think differently".
And of course, one may know Russia, Ukraine and other places around there much more then I do.

Anyway, this forum is probably not the best place to talk about politics and geostrategy as this has nothing to do with loving airplanes.
