During landing of 956 both main tires got smokey (I assume through brakeforce) and at the end of RWY22 turned right and hold position. Fire brigade and other services awaiting the wounded bird. His wingman went around, made an approach on RWY27, go around and orbit past the main tower en than came in for a full stop landing at RWY24. During the first and second fly-by over the airfield RWY24 was used for departing traffic, Transavia B737 PH-HZJ, BA A319 G-DBCA and Turkish A321 TC-JSM had to vacate the runway (Transavia and BA where already lined up, vacated at Sierra 4 and back in line for HV. The BA A319 went back to D26. Turkish went to Sierra 8 and got a detour over Sierra apron. After landing at RWY24 A-10C 991 vacated the runway and was escorted by a follow me vehicle towards Schiphol-East. So far the movements as I saw from the observation deck (had no scanner with me so no idea about the RT).Hopla wrote:What has happened? On the video you can clearly see the A10 far to high for 22 even for an A10. On the liveatc I could only hear that he was supposed to come in on 24. Traffic on 24 had to wait and a police helicopter over the city as well. On the liveradar it looks like it was a problem somewere close to the end of 22. Cannot find much about the incident.
Left main gear tire is flat!

I am not familiar with oceanic transitflights to and from Lajes to Europe, but what is the reason why they routed over The Netherlands to Spang? I read on MSF they routed Marham - NAVPI (which is North Sea)

The only thing I can come up with is that they didn't get permission to overfly France.... Hence their routing via Land's End..nilsko wrote:I am not familiar with oceanic transitflights to and from Lajes to Europe, but what is the reason why they routed over The Netherlands to Spang? Some more "elevated views" of the wounded bird while (only just) still taxi-ing, emitting smoke from that shredded left tire:

Morning,
Routing overhead the Netherlands is pretty normal if the do Lajes - Germany. In this case they had to fly over UK - Netherlands, and if I'm correct problems started just before entering the Netherlands.
Have heard the soundclip(s) of their flight and sounded pretty hectic and needed to go down asap. I can imagine he was too high (as stated by someone here), but also that the first one was talking about RW22 already pretty soon.
Regards,
Oz

24 is not ILS equipped... (while 22 is..)..Fishbed_9307 wrote:Well I think the aircraft shot a normal ILS approach. I might have looked higher as we are used to much bigger aircraft than the tiny A-10. I understand that the aircraft had a pressurisation problem whilst still over the water with AMS being the closest suitable airport to land.Hopla wrote:What has happened?
