First impressions China Airshow 2014, Zhuhai.

Post by P.Terlouw »

I spend 3 days at the China Airshow 2014 in Zhuhai and here are a few quick edits from the laptop. With almost no Sunshine and hazy weather it was challenging. But still very happy with the results and also with the great aircraft.

1. PLAAF line-up on the static.

2. New Shenyang J-31 taking off. It was parked in another area and not visible to the public.

3. Another newbie is the Xian Y-20 transport.

4. J-10 of the August 1st team landing. Team now also has a female pilot.

5. KJ200 leaving the flightlline
Image

6. the Chinese version of the A50 Mainstay was a very welcomed surprise
Image

7. Russian Knights were also present
Image

8. as was Al Fursan.

This aircraft may be more important geo-politically speaking than some people might think...
Yes, this is an C-17 Globemaster equivalent :!:

It's amzing how the Chinese do not even try to cover up the fact that they are making exact copies of Western aircraft.
Even the color is the same.

How do you mean western? This Aircraft has the nose of an An70 and (for now) the engines of an IL76.
I think it is a good looking thing. Lets wait and see if they can make it fly reliable.

The ambition is plain to see. It is clear that the balance of power in the world is moving.

Nice pictures, hope to see more.

Thanks guys!. I am having some trouble accessing my Photobucket account from China so I will update next week when I have returned to Holland.

The Y-20 made quite an interesting performance with steep banks and turns. The engines are realy outdated but on the other hand it sounds like an Il-76 :-) . It was parked near the A-50 (or K2000 in China??) and they share the same wing sweep and angle. Also interesting to know this time there was a USAF participant in the static!! Yes....... a C-17 from Hickam, Hawaii. The crew thought the Y-20 was an "interesting" machine.

What did you make of the flight demonstration of the J-31? Comments of some international observers have been less than flattering. Apparently the jet is grossly underpowered and has to fly with after burner continuously to stay level?

Oh I'd love to witness circuit training if that were the case. :teeth:

Interesting additions again Peter, thanks!
