The S.211 is c/n 018 (a static test frame). The G.91Y is still unkown to me.
Here is the list of the rest in Cassano.

Thanks Erwin for the info ...
But there is more. There are now besides your list an additional AB.204, S.211 and a Harvard. The other S.211 is registered I-SIJF. The Harvard is ex MM53665.

Thanks for those! Did know about the T-6, just not the serial. The extra S.211 must have been added recently then.

Re: Unidentified flying objects in Varese Italy
Hi Carl,
Nice pictures. I live not that far away from Venegono, in Cadrezzate, because of work. Venegono is convenient for me to take pictures as it is close and it is a interesting airfield, you never know what you can expect. As you have experienced, the backdrop is stunning for taking pictures. I can not guarantee the MM numbers of both MB-339s but I have 'likely' serials:
MB-339A-MLU/PAN might be the MM54517 which was awaiting IRAN last year, last seen April 2013
MB-339A/MLU might be the MM54516 which was also awaiting IRAN last year, last seen March 2013
I will be at Venegono quite regularly from September onwards, I will keep you informed regarding my observations. Interesting to see the pitot tube on the nose of the M-346 as all M-346s manufactured until now don't have a nose fitted pitot tube.

Re: Unidentified flying objects in Varese Italy
Thanks for the info Grappa01. Please keep me informed from September onwards.
On the one with the pitot tube. Perhaps it is only fitted for calibration and later changed for a standard nose? as it was turned around in all directions at the south-west dispersal ...

Re: Unidentified flying objects in Varese Italy
Hi Carl
The first G91 in frecce tricolori colours should be a composition of 2 aircraft.
these "could be" mm6465 ex 8-24 and mm6472 ex 8-32.
info taken from book "wrecks and relics - Aeromobili conservati in Italia" edited from association VMAS (http://www.vmas.it) this is a Full AB special edition n2. Year 2009.
ciao Giampaolo

Re: Unidentified flying objects in Varese Italy
Hi Carl,
It seems like the primer M-346 on your picture is not CSX55172. On the website Airliners.Net you can find a picture of CSX55172 in primer during landing at Venegono and it is way different. A new M-346 with M-346 titles on the tail has been seen at Venegono recently which will most probably become the new Aermacchi testbed. Also the fact that the M-346 on your picture is fitted with a pitot tube on the nose might relate to a possible test aircraft. At the moment Aermacchi uses CSX55152 as testbed but apparently Aermacchi leases the aircraft from the Italian Air Force since the loss of CPX617 in May 2013.
First deliveries of the T-346A's to 212 Gruppo are scheduled for Autumn this year and most probably includes CSX55152. CPX622 as future serial of the new M-346 test aircraft seems plausible but confirmation is appreciated.

Re: Unidentified flying objects in Varese Italy
Thanks for the info. I do not see too many differences and a nose can be easily switched. So we have to wait and see. Please keep me up to date.

Re: Unidentified flying objects in Varese Italy
Good evening Carl,
Looking at the exterior of both aircraft there is not much difference but when you look at the color of the the grey paint and the painted surfaces there are differences. For example when you look at the rudder, the M-346 on your picture has been painted whereas M-346 CSX55172 has still a rudder in primer at it's first flight....
Anyway, I just returned home from an afternoon at Venegono and this particular M-346 made a test flight this afternoon. I can now confirm that the M-346 on your picture is CPX622. The aircraft is still in primer and does have a pitot tube mounted on the nose. The tail of the aircraft is 'decorated' with the text: X-AJT M-346, referring to Experimental - Advanced Jet Trainer. It looks all right in primer but it would not surprise me if the aircraft will be painted overall grey in the near future. I am afraid I can not upload any foto's to prove as I am still using wet film.... Anyway, one less aircraft to identify on your pictures.
