Re: Lajes (Azores) LPLA/TER - 2014 MIL
Special thanks for this A-10C stopover update and the related photo link, DengaZ! They arrived at Lajes Field for stopover en route to Continental United States (CONUS) after a combat-deployment with the 75th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron "Tiger Sharks" to the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing, Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). And at least a second flight should follow. According to 23rd Wing Public Affairs, 23rd Wing (ACC), Moody AFB, Georgia, a total of five A-10C pilots in their jets returned to Moody April 23, 2014. BTW: A-10C 80-0252 already combat-deployed in March 2013 with the 74th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron "Flying Tigers". It wasn't redeployed with the 74th EFS, and also served for the 75th EFS "Tiger Sharks" as their replacement unit. And so, A-10C 80-0252 spent about one year at Bagram Airfield. The 75th EFS recently was replaced by the 303rd Expeditionary Fighter Squadron "KC Hawgs", 442nd Fighter Wing (AFRC), Whiteman AFB, Missouri, also documented by some Lajes stopover pictures. copied from Fightercontrol.co.uk7 ID A10's arrived today at Lajes, don't know the final destination
Seems a bit of overkill of spare a/c for only 2 A-10s attending the ILA.
