EHDL Deelen 01-04-2014, Hot refuel

Post by jeroenvv »

Today I went to the Arnhemse Hei because the NOTAMs indicated that would be an exercise at Deelen. I was hoping for a report like this one, but I soon found out upon arrival that practice took place on the airfield itself. There was almost nothing to see from the outside, because it was on the side of the Hoge Veluwe, and it was only one Chinook.

I waited for a while, and then finally decided to go. Photo opportunities were less than 0. Luckily I had my scanner on, and someone asked if the intention was to refuel. That was answered positively, and whether it was hot or cold refuel. When I heard hot I was glad that I had not gone yet, because I was standing near the platform. Here's the result, still some reasonable pictures of a hot refuel:

01. Aerial shots were very boring.

04. Deelen tower in the background.

06. Not my best shot, but it captures the moment. The loadmaster is talking to the refuel guys.

07. 100% crop of this picture, I thought the helmet was cool, and the fact that the other guy is wrapped from top to bottom in fire-resistant material.

You're welocome. Not much to report from Deelen, as there is not much flying activity, and when there is, it's al very far away, and against the sun.
