The US military on Wednesday, 13th November, sent more cargo planes and Osprey aircraft to bolster relief efforts in the Philippines, hoping to reach area cut-off.

Four MV-22 Ospreys have departed from US Futenma base in Japan bound for the Philippines, expanding the number of Osprey aircraft involved in the emergency work to eight, the US Maine Corps said in a statement.

Eight MC-130 cargo aircraft also were deployed to reinforce the relief operation for victims of Typhoon Haiyan, increasing the fleet of cargo planes to 12 to help with deliveries of food, water and emergency supplies. The Pentagon has approved $10 million in funds for the effort dubbed OPERATION DAMAYAN, or help in Time of Need.

The US Navy has several ships heading to the coast of the Philippines in the next few days that will bring hundreds of Marines and more aircraft, vehicles and other assistance.

The carrier George Washington, with its escort of two cruisers and destroyers, is due to arrive as soon as Wednesday, bringing 11 helicopters as well as dozens of planes and the capacity to desalinate large volumes of water. George Washingstons landing deck is very usable for the Ospreys and other helicopters as a landing platform.

Another American destroyer and a supply ship were en route to the disaster zone and two amphibious ships, the USS Germantown and the USS Ashland, set off Tuseday from the port of sasebo in southern Japan.

The Germantown and the Ashland are equipped with landing craft and amphibious vehciles, medical facilities and desalination systems to produce drinking water.

The two amphibious ships are expected to arrive at the storm-ravaged country´s coast within about six days, according to the Marine Corps statement.

Another amphibious ship, the uSS Denver, remains on standby in Sasebo for deployment, a Navy official said.

Hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19)

Admiral Harris, commander of the US Pacific Fleet. Directed the activation of the hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) 13 Nov to be ready to support Philippines. Berthed in San Diego, USNS Mercy has been in a reduced operating status, which is normal for a hospital ship. Harris activation order accelerates Mercy´s ability to attain full operating status to include moving necessary personnel and equipment to the ship.

I fordered to deply, Mercy would get underway in the next several day and could arrive in the Philippines sometime in December.

Japan plan large contingent for Philippine aid.

Japan plan to send 1000 soldiers, more ships and airplanes to Philippine aid. It could be the largest Japan military aid foreign aid since second world war, larger then the Tsunamin contingency.

The Japan military have large restrictions to foreign aids, which the primeminister Shinzo Abe will change, even to match Chinas increasing power in Asia.

Long-range RQ-4 US surveillance drones based of Andersen Air Force Base have also been flying reconnaissance missions over the disaster area, feeding back imagery of the devastaion to humanitarian aid planners in Manilla, the first administration official added.

One of the Swedish TP 84 Hercules's will remain in the Philippines to airlift cargo and rescue/aid workers between Cebu and Tacloban and other stricken areas. The other Hercules will return home, but not confirmed if this is the one with reg. no 845 that took off first on Monday. A TP 100 takes/took off today (14 November) from Stockholm-Arlanda to head to the Philippines with additional Swedish military personnel to support the Herc. Its own assets are 11 helicopters and the hole Washington strike group has 21 helicopters of MH-60R/S type. Several MV-22 has been transported to Washington, and use Wahington as a landing asset.

Two more flights with disaster aid for the Philippines took of on Wednesday evening.

The MSB, Sweden, planned two more flights carrying disaster aid for the Philippines. The aircraft were loaded with medical supplies from Doctors Without Borders, as well as emergency aid in the form of tents and basic hygiene items.

Two aircraft were loaded at Örebro airport with necessites and equipment for departure this evening. Destination is the island of Chebu in the Philippines.

The cargo included equipment for the base camps and vehicles (Landrovers), as well as medical supplies from Doctors Without Borders.

In addition, the MSB is dispatching basic shelter equipment that will serve as a "roof over the heads" of he victims. Basic hygiene is also part of the emergency aid, for example sinks and simple personal hygiene items.

The aeroplane took on up to 400 tents (filled up space). The tents will be used by save the Children, which is already active on site.

The MSB personnel who travelled out on Tuesday are scheduled to arrive today (tuesday) in Cebu.

Rest of three UN base camps, with communications equipment and staff from the IHP arrived today in Philippines.

The first base camp were set up in Tacloban, others are planned for Roxas and Cebu.

"The most important thing right now is that the base camps we dispatched are set up quickly. The UN and other humanitarian bodies must have a solid base with communications facilities, electricity, food and water to help the victims on the spot".

In addition six experts from the MSB Field Staff Roster for operations will work for Unicef and the WFP. these include, for example, water, information (IT) and engineering experts.

The MSB is continuing its work on the planning of more operations.

Swedish AF Tp.84 84005/845 transitted Thai airspace on the 14th.

MV-22B from VMM-265 (YZ) landed first time 12 Nov on Ise Japan Helicopter Destroyer outside Okinawa. Japan Self-defence forces have two destroyers of this kind, with two more building (larger). The MV-22MB belongs to 31 MEU.

Today informed www.navy.mil that more MV-22B transfer soon to Philippines for Typhoon response operations.

The Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Forces will be sending the ships JS Ise, JS Towada and JS Osumi to join the relief effort, with three CH-47 Chinooks on board. They will be joined by a Japan Air Self-Defence Force C-130, in the largest HADR mission since its formation.

JS Osuma a 14000 ton LST
JS Towada a 15000 ton replenishment ship (oiler)

JS Hyuga tested MV-22 landings this sommer outside California and JS Ise tested MV-22 landings 15 Nov outside Okinawa.

Japan are also building two larger helicopter carriers.
