F-35 Lightning II JSF developments ss
Although it was also mentioned that if the now set aside amount of money would not be enough to buy that amount of aircraft, the JSF would definately drop out.
Interesting insight in what happened while building this cabinet: The socialists were prepared to buy the Lightning II(I), while the liberals were prepared to drop out...

Re: F-35 Lightning II JSF developments
Wow 35, so really can make a difference! NOT.
Or as we say in Dutch, we kunnen geen deuk meer in een pakje boter slaan!
Think about this:
2x QRA and 2 backup
About 6 in the USA for training
About 12 in maintainance
And a couple (about 4) on a foreign mission
A couple will crash to.....
So maybe we can get 9 planes and after a couple of years 3 or 4 in the air.
It will get really silent on the Dutch airfields!
Maybe time to switch to civil!

Compromise is failure.

Your conclusion could be right. But concerning the budget available, could it be different?jp 74 wrote:Wow 35, so really can make a difference! NOT.

Oh Yes, but that's an other threat in this forum....Rockville wrote:Your conclusion could be right. But concerning the budget available, could it be different?
Remember that the F-16 also is purchased in batches. That's whats they call Salami method or in Sun Zu's old wisdom: "Invite the enemy on the roof (of your palace to inspect the troops) and remove the ladder."

Re: F-35 Lightning II JSF developments
haha.... what a f#&@#ng joke.... 35 of those planes is a true joke! Then it would be better to swith the Air Force role into one support force with additional helicopters and transport planes rather then fighters. In my own humble opinion it also will see the closure of one of the two fighter bases, as the Dutch Tax payers will not accept to keep a base open for 4 to 6 fighters.

Re: F-35 Lightning II JSF developments
Well 35 JSF's will in any way result in closing another airbase I am afraid...so we will have 1 silent base in stead of 2...
Re: F-35 Lightning II JSF developments
Nice bringing some ancient 'wisdom' in here that is about troops with swords and not about fighter aircraft costing 65 million euro a piece. If you seriously think there will be another order sometime in the future, you will almost surely be disappointed.Flyboy wrote:Oh Yes, but that's an other threat in this forum....

Re: F-35 Lightning II JSF developments
1) Wisdom is not limited in time, proven by the fact that Sun Tsu still is part of strategic literature at the academies.evhest wrote:Nice bringing some ancient 'wisdom' in here that is about troops with swords and not about fighter aircraft costing 65 million euro a piece. 2) 4 Billion divided by 65 million would be 61.5 JSF's, so the price tag based on the assumption that 4B delivers 35 pieces is 115 million each (!?)
3) This is all about politics so anything can be expected, even the unexpected.
But hey, everyone is entitled to his/her own opinions

Marc

The price of 65 million is sans maintenance and weaponry.

Have to say that I am happy with the choice and I believe that the airforce got a much better future with the JSF than any of the other choices. Looking forward to see them in Dutch airspace.

Re: Vervanging F-16's

Aantal spare engines, trainingsuren in VS, simulator in NL, AIM-120C-x, AIM-9X, SDB, oranje radar-absorberende verf??
