Had an interesting and frustrating but overall good first couple of days at CQWI 2013, a few clouds ruined a lot of shots but at times the sun came from nowhere so we'll call it evens!
I've even been blogging about my experiences over these two days with more posts to come, I don't want them to be a minute by minute account but instead a summary of the day. Here's where you can read them if you want: http://itschrismilne.wordpress.com/tag/cqwi/
Cheers for the company aswell to everyone I've seen over the two days so far.
Enough words, time for some photos:
1. Both days I've been there we've had one of these sneaky guys in and out for a morning fuel stop, so if you're interested they seem to arrive about 0900 and depart at 1000 (rough times)..
Sneaky Shadow by Chris Milne Photography, on Flickr
2. The centennial Sentinel has been a lovely catch. It's pretty rare to see 40% of the fleet taxi out and depart simultaneously! The sun tried to pop out as he was taxi-ing, luckily enough to bring a bit of colour into the frame!

3. My first 41TES Typhoon. This, in good light, is my next objective!
41TES Typhoon by Chris Milne Photography, on Flickr
4. The two Albert's minimal interval arrival was an uncommon sight. Especially with a C-130K being in the mix, a type which is becoming ever rarer and still sounds like a proper cargo aircraft unlike the C-130J which is far too quiet!

5. Another one of the C-130K because it's a beauty!
Elder Herk by Chris Milne Photography, on Flickr
6. Nice to see 1(F)sqn have marked up their twin stick at last!

7. My favourite photo so far, a four-ship (the fourth is in the heat haze on the right) of Typhoons roll to the end of 23 after the main sortie.
Trail of four by Chris Milne Photography, on Flickr
8. FI taxies off the end of runway 23, surprised the heat haze didn't kill these shots.

9. A quick dash up to 10 after seeing the Sentinel on long finals, left 05 when it was eight miles out, arrived in the 10 field just as it touched down. Hoped it would taxi up 10 but it missed and turned off at whisky, still fine but might try for the 10 shot another time! Unfortunately the summer sun casts shadow on half of the tail at almost any angle when it moves so I'm not too sure how to conquer that yet.

10. Just before heading back to 23 this C-130J returned and cut off at 10.
"Exit at the short" by Chris Milne Photography, on Flickr
11. It soon departed for a mission after a touch 'n' go.
Lumberjack by Chris Milne Photography, on Flickr
12. Four Typhoons departed, followed shortly after by FI who even did a couple of long approaches before going off for his mission.

13. Sadly, a cloud came over for all the arrivals. Three 1sqn marked jets sat on the bomber loop allowing the 3sqn marked jet to turn northside before the other three plus latecomer FI went off southside. Not sure what that was all about but it made for okay shots, would have been great if the sun was out.

The 130J is also referred to as the C130 Gay and they sound as 2 Saab 2000s in formation.Macc wrote:

Re: Ex CQWI at RAF Lossiemouth - July 13 [MIL]
I've already posted from Tuesday and Wednesday of week one, here is the best of the rest from Thursday till Wednesday of the second week. I was joined by Mark (Lossie15) and we tried a few new locations and ideas after capturing the 'bog standard' record shots. Plenty of banter at the fence and generally good weather although frustrating at times but alas we managed!
1. A non-story failure to retract his refuelling probe made for a nice photo.

2. The main wave recovery caught the sun as it was right down the runway so the Typhoons smooth fuselage made some of the photos alright.

After seeing no jets hit up the hot pit me and Mark headed home for a curry, only to be disturbed by some jets departing an hour later. So we headed down for the return and caught three Typhoons landing just after the sun disappeared behind a bank of cloud but not too late for some colourful cloudscapes.
