As the end is becomming very near now for the German Air Force F-4F phantoms we went to Northern Germany again to see some phantom action. On the first day there was a lot of activity at Wittmund. Weather was perfect with sun all day long and nice temperatures. There were a lot of visitors in the morning and some locals also came out to play. One EF2000 and one F-4F made a local flight in the morning and again in the afternoon. An other F-4F went to Laage and returned late afternoon.
In the afternoon we had the honnor to have a basevisit at this nice fightertown. Our guide had placed an F-4F and EF2000 in front of the hangar so nice pictures could be taken! Afterwards we went to have a look in the squadron building and at 14h00lt we had a QRA demo. Very spectacular to see the crews and technicians running to the hangars, starting up and no less then 7 minutes later they were airborne!! Afterwards we went to the tower and the approach where we saw returning the QRA F-4's with a PAR. Very interesting to see the controllers talking the phantoms to the ground. Afterwards we went to have a look to the flightsim and this was already the end of our great visit.
Next day we stayed near the fence again in the morning, but due to fog, only one F-4F took off to Nörvenich. A nice surprice visitor in shape of a Danish AF F-16BM came by for an approach.
First some of the scooters
Some of the visitors
German BD5000
Transall
German Cougar
Now some of the new fighters for Wittmund, the EF2000. At that time, there were already 2 based at Wittmund
And the second one, seen from the tower
And one from Laage to pose for us in front of the visitors hangar
And the main reason we went, offcourse, the phantoms
the local mission in the morning:
One phantom leaving for Laage:
one decorated phantom in front of the hangar
some of the QRA demo:
First one leaving the QRA shelter
Second one:
And some of the next day. Unfortunatly the weather wasn't as nice anymore. And from 8h00 till 10h00 we only saw one departing phantom to Nörvenich. Afterwards we left for Leeuwarden again
I hope you like them. We had a great day in Wittmund.
