Koksijde 15/05/2013: Brittish Invasion

Koksijde 15/05/2013: Brittish Invasion

This afternoon 3 AAC Apaches and a RAF Chinook refueled at Koksijde on their way to Gütersloh. What a sight!! The 3 apaches were parked very close to the fence, and all helicopters taxied via the taxiway next to the aeroclub to the runway!!! awesome to see them from that close!!! A lot of cars stopped at the road to see this spectacle

Very nice, it was a good thing the sun was out. Overhead Volkel they were black blobs....

It's good to see those AAC Apaches outside the UK! I guess you were at the right spot at the right moment. :)

Is that a travel-pod or external fuel tank at the left hand side of the Apaches? never seen it before.

Also strange to see a a-symmetrical configuration from a physics point of view.

These are napalm bombs used by the British forces :wink:

No just kidding, these are fuel tanks indeed to extend there flying range.

The a-symmetrical configuration is a relative problem at the low horizontal airspeeds of an Apache. Furtherrmore: the relative wind is even lower since the rotor produces a lot of downwash.
