Anyone can ID this aircraft? Spotted on Google Earth dated Jan 2010 at the PLAN base of Changzhou near Shanghai, which is a civilian-military airport home to a regiment of H-6 bombers. http://thebaseleg.blogspot.com.au/2013/ ... -plan.html
I'll admit I'm stumped; posed this question on Twitter (@thebaseleg) and a lot of guesses (some good ones too) but the aircraft pictured just doesn't tick all the boxes.

I was thinking that as well. Q-5mwpeters wrote:Isn't this just a picture of a Nanchang Q-5 fantan?

Most definitely not a Fantan. This is a Fantan (bottom of the three, zoom in to see better), which is nothing like the mini H-6 on the base near Shanghai.

Hi Erwin,
I was also not sure, but perhaps a modified example for testing purposes. The design of this mini H-6 does not look to me as if it would be a new design. The aerodynamics of current designed aircraft (read western designed), have way different shapes these days. Such a design would remind me more to an aircraft designed in the late 60's early 70's, like the Fantan. Despite, the pictures on Google Earth sometimes are sometimes a little bit vague due to shadows etc.

Whatever it is, it will never fly I think.
With the airport expansion the thing is now at a disused dispersal.

Fire service training object?
Re: Mystery aircraft at PLAN bomber base
Well, the answer has been given I recon. Not a Fantan, not a H-6, it is nothing really...mwpeters wrote:Hi Erwin,
