As I understand it, every double item will be sold or scrapped as with items not suitable for display. Also a candidate for scrapping is the only excisting Dutch F-86K, the Q-283.

Not to be scrapped. Poortwachters F-86K and F-104 will move to the new museum and displayed outside. Also the 32nd aircrafts will be put outside (with exception of the F-15 and Phantom).

And otherwise, can we please have it back at Twenthe?.....
Re: Open/Closed Depot Day 6-4 Soesterberg
I don't get it - the museum is actually going to be based ON the airbase itself and all those aircraft that flew from that airbase, e.g. F-100, F-102, F-4, F-15 etc are not going to be part of the core museum display that is always available? Perhaps someone ought to remind the museum that the 32nd TFS was actually a Royal squadron?

Really, we're aware of that....Erik_7Xi wrote:I don't get it - the museum is actually going to be based ON the airbase itself and all those aircraft that flew from that airbase, e.g. F-100, F-102, F-4, F-15 etc are not going to be part of the core museum display that is always available? And the F-15 (and later the F-4) will be part of the core museum display. But it's not going to be a 32nd TFS museum, it's a Dutch Defense Museum. We've got to make choices...

hi Vinflyer,
Choices should always being made on starting points (uitganspunten), if you could clearify on these starting points, it probably explains the choices made?

Yes and the 32nd TFS played a key role in the defense of the Netherlands during the cold war. Displaying its entire heritage, including the F-86, F-100 and F-102, would pay tribute to the close relationship between the United States Air Force and the Royal Netherlands Air Force during those years where the threat of Soviet aggression was not only possible but a likelihood.VinFlyer wrote: Really, we're aware of that....

While I could understand that, for budget reasons, it may not be possible to acquire all aircraft types that flew from Soesterberg but it baffles me that aircraft like the F-100 and F-102 would be scrapped while already part of the museum collection. Especially as neither the F-100 or F-102 are commonly seen in museums elsewhere.
Having been a visitor of the museum for over 30 years, I know very well that it covers more than just the 32nd TFS but purposely casting away half the Wolfhound heritage while planning to move the museum onto the airbase itself is an affront to the Bakermat.
