Re: P3 ORION TOPIC

Post by Thijs »

Hello,

We received the following request:
I have a website devoted to the VPNAVY. I noticed you had a number of P-3 Orion photograph's that I didn't have. I found them on:

http://forum.scramble.nl/viewtopic.php? ... &start=105 (P3 ORION TOPIC).

I hope you don't mind but I "grabbed" a few and placed the following with each photograph:

"...Dutch Aviation Society - Scramble Message Board - P3 ORION TOPIC..." WebSite: http://forum.scramble.nl/ [DATE]

If you have a problem with this - I will remove all photograph's immediately.

Thanks and Good Hunting!

There are some really awesome photos in this topic - I love the old, full-color USN schemes!

To add something different, here are some Kiwi Orions:

True, but at least we still get to see some flying Orions down here!

Slijfie wrote:Hi Herky,
That's right! The CP-140 was number 4 on finals 05 and was forced to make an overshoot as there still was a Dutch P-3 on the runway. At the end of the runway the pilot (you know him!) pulled up and kicked the plane to the left. I looked out of the window and could only see the town of Valkenburg. He asked me not the tell anyone he did this. This manoeuvre was strictly forbidden! Apparently he told you about it.
@Slijfie: while I was looking for a log of the 1995 Manna flight, I came across this post. I have a picture of exactly this moment (P-3C on runway with CP-140 performing the overshoot). If you are interested you can send me a PM. I am still interested if you have the serials of the aircraft involved in this flight

@Pelican: thanks! PM sent, with log.

Browsing through this topic, I got in the mood, so here are some more P-3 Orions!

Valkenburg early January 1985. No activity on the flightline, but with a USN P-3C of VP-56.
Image

According to 'the books' 150515 was flown by VP-30 (NAS Jacksonville) when she came to Valkenburg on 25 February 1986. Shortly after she was transferred to NAS Sigonella and became the 'Catbird', the private plane of the Commander in Chief Allied Forces Southern Europe.

VP-64 P-3A 152158 leaving Valkenburg, November 1984.
Image

In 1992 four Dutch P-3s received special colours to celebrate the 75th birthday of the Marineluchtvaartdienst (MLD). This is number 302.

Anyone has a P-3 of CP-140 to share?

Cheers,
Rob

As promised some photos of the P-3Cs/CP-140 that participated in the 1995 Operation Manna memorial flight. Certainly not the best quality, but straight from the scanner and taken with a Canon FT-QL equipped with a 200mm + converter, way before the digital age!
