Re: Eindhoven movements / expectations
Hello Crizz,
You are a spotter, so you are free to apply for membership of EWAS. Eindhoven spotters are not, as you imply, trying to keep everything for themselves, although I understand where your sentiment is coming from. I would like to stress that we like to share with other spotters as much as any other spotter.
Maybe I'll see you soon at EWAS?
Best regards from the south!
Stephan
(PS: I'm speaking to you as a fellow spotter, I do not officially represent EWAS. But I do know a little bit how things evolved the past couple of weeks, and I must say I understand both 'sides').

Please enlighten us on your view on 'sharing'. The way it looks now is that sharing from other boards to EWAS is fine, but sharing from EWAS to other boards is not. Nice, really open and friendly....Stephan Lodewijks wrote:I would like to stress that we like to share with other spotters as much as any other spotter.
Pathetic in this day and age if you ask me...

Re: Eindhoven movements / expectations
You can already read the enlightenment you seak in my former post: EWAS is not closing to spotters. If you are a spotter, and I know you are, then feel free to apply for membership at EWAS. That way you will be as informed as any other spotter who is a member. I advise not to be too rigid about WHERE you read your information, just know where to get it, and make your choice to apply for membership. The Internet is about more than just the forums you are used to at any given time.
Hope to see and read you soon!
In the meantime, as a spotter, I am ofcourse still free to inform scramble.nl - or any other website - with information I personally acquire via Eye Balls Mark 1 and/or radioscanner.
Best regards,
Stephan

Re: Eindhoven movements / expectations
Maybe time to read your own rules there. EWAS has the right to block access to anyone, at any time. In otherwords, anyone can be a member, if you like them. So I ask again, how much do you like to share the info? When I post something here from the EWAS forum, will I be removed from the forum again?Stephan Lodewijks wrote: If you are a spotter, and I know you are, then feel free to apply for membership at EWAS. And do you really think I am interested in being a member of a different forum for each airfield in the Netherlands and around? Please grow up and understand we are living in a different world thesedays. You cannot keep info to yourself anymore. The music industry is finding out the hard way for decades already, you want that too?

Re: Eindhoven movements / expectations
First, they are not my own rules. If these rules are old-fashioned, modern or otherwise...I wouldn't know, and it's beside my point. I just want to point out that there are alternative options. That's it.
Second, I don't think that rule is NOT meant to ban people that are not 'liked'. It's about only letting spotters in on the forum. It seems, to me, you are thinking in obstructions instead of options. But hey, I respect that ofcourse.
Good luck and happy spotting!

Re: Eindhoven movements / expectations
So now you are making it worse still. Only spotters (who decides that?) are allowed in.... nice.
Call it 'thinking in obstructions' as much as you like. The way I see it is that you want to 'guard' your info for the big bad world outside. So far, I haven't seen anything from you proving otherwise. Too bad, in my opinion it remains pathetic and bound to do you more bad than good. For the one time I visit Eindhoven per year (if at all) I am not going to give my personal phonenumber to any organisation. (for those who didn't bother reading the EWAS rules, you are obligated to provide name, address and telephonenumber if you want to apply).
Please wake up and join the open spotters community again, in stead of locking yourselves up in your own little world. That is so last century...

Re: Eindhoven movements / expectations
Ok, thanks for your reply. Why are you surprised that a closed spotters forum is only meant for spotters? Anyway, we are not hearing each other, and also mixing several aspects of forums in one dialog.
Well, at least you made a choice not to apply for EWAS, that is a concious decision. Other spotters are free to decide to apply still.
Best regards from the south!
Stephan
(PS: Again, I do not represent EWAS or any specific spotters community. Although I am, like many spotters, part of several).

Re: Eindhoven movements / expectations
Dear Erwin,
Your discussion is pointless because you are not talking with the right person. Simple fact is that we used to have a number of very good an useful sources on EWAS which used to post lots of info. Sometimes it was shared on scramble, other times not. These sources make very clear that sometimes they do not want certain info posted on the scramble message board, I have not seen them mention why and have never bother asking them because it is simply how they want it. I do know some of them have been in trouble for posting info on scramble and EWAS with their employer. Talk with them if you want to know their exact motivation for not sharing info on scramble.
Since more and more info has been shared around the web and their wishes have become less respected they have posted less information on EWAS. You can call EWAS a bunch of =censored= for not wanting to share the info with everyone. As I see it the fact that everybody expects all the info to be shared all over the web all the time regardless what the source says about that has only resulted in a ruined relationship with many of these sources which means we simply don't get a lot of info at all anymore. You can call their wish pathetic, but you do rely on them for providing you with info.
Not respecting their wish and then complaining that they do not share enough seems rather sillyto me, and then complaining that everything is the fault of EWAS is just totally ridiculous.

Re: Eindhoven movements / expectations
First of all, its every spottinggroup right to restrict access. It's also everyone's right to refrain from sharing info. But it's a bit naive to think that restricting info on a messageboard means that sources are protected or information is not distributed elsewhere. The question is whether those in the know are crossing the line when posting info on a closed, uncontrolled (from the source point of view) messageboard. The fact I have info, which my source don't want me to share, doesn't mean sharing it on a closed messageboard is OK all of a sudden. Who guarantees this info is not leaked? Who controls the messageboard?
Let's put it this way.. Example: If I work as an intel-officer on an airbase and I have information I would not share but I do know this guy from unit x is a spotter and posts on messageboards (and frankly, if I was an intel officer, I'd certainly like to know which personell does this.. Comes with the job to know and comes with the responsibility of an airforce employee to accept this *is* known) I would do everything I can not to distribute this information and if guy y from unit x needs this info to do his job, I certainly hope his integrity prevents him from posting this info on an uncontrolled public (and yes, restricitng access with a username/password and credential check is *not* controlled IMHO) messageboard.
Of course, it's still EWAS' choice as it is of the one in the know... But there are a lot of odds and ends to this kind of stuff..

Re: Eindhoven movements / expectations
It is very funny though ... It's 2013 but it's like being back in 1989 again ... Instead of message boards b*tch and moan about movements on some voice mail box.
If flight plans are marked as restricted or classified, putting that information on any kind of forum, "closed" or not, is a criminal offensive. If the info comes from "the inside" and is not public, the source of the info is not a very bright individual. If the info is public then not wanting to share the info is typical childish behaviour shown by many spotters. Which is why I personally take offence when being called one as I am not.
Then again, I also don't agree with information on this site being restricted to members only as the scramble databases , magazine and airfield guides are filled with data shared by people around the world who aren't subscribers.

Apparently, checking e-mail is quite difficult in the Eindhoven area
You could try resending your e-mail to beheer@ewas.nl ?
