REQ Info on Seoul Airshow

Post by SquAdmin »

I've got some general questions about Seoul Airshow:
- when are the public days?
- are there any limitations for foreigners?
- tips for photography?
- is it possible/advisable to take pictures from outside?
- is it difficult to get a hotelroom during airshow days?
- any other advice?

Thanks in advance for reactions :D

- public days 2 and 3 November 2013
- they will try to prevent you from taking pictures of non-event related movements
- outside photography is possible and didn't pose any problems in the past
- plenty of hotel rooms
- enjoy!

Two years ago a few things went wrong at Osan, with the quoted part as official comment,
ref: http://forum.scramble.nl/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=79555
I received word that you were not admitted into Air Power Day. I understand
your frustration about the situation and am very sorry for the
inconvenience. The Netherlands was added to a list of countries prohibited
from entering the installation at the last minute. I cannot disclose
detailed information about what triggered the change; however, I can relay
that the change was made as a direct result of a series of inappropriate
actions taken by aviation enthusiast from the Netherlands. Such matters are
taken very seriously by Osan Air Base force protection personnel because
operational security and information protection is integral to the
protection and success of the U.S. military and its allies. Again we
understand your frustration and deeply apologize for the inconvenience.

This could well cause problems at Osan-and possibly other bases in the RoK in October.

If it has not already happened, the Korean powers to be are going to work out there will be many people around their bases and heighten security.

I understand Germans and Brits were not banned at Osan,so something obviously caused the Koreans to specifically target Netherland nationals.

Hi, all
The Airshow will be only two days, on 26-27 Oct., at the Cheongju Int'l AP which is about 100kmSE from Seoul.
It is easy to go from Seoul city by express bus(less than 2 Hrs.).

The main exhibition will be hold at a large trade center in the Seoul city(there is no R/W).
And it will open to the public on 2-3 Nov..

This was in 2011. Does anyone know whether this restriction for Dutch citizens was still in place during the 2012 Air Power Day?

We should make sure that 100s are there, so they get used to it ;-)

I was there at the Air Show in question as well and did even speak with some of them and I am not sure what the issues at hand could. Its not that you can wonder off and walk around the restricted area's , whatever it might have been , sometimes things are taken out of context and restrictions are being put in place without any ground to stand on , again we have to albeit by the rules and regulations set in place and some of the spotters do not adhere to them we see that all the time and that creates this kind of situations , what's alright in The Netherlands is not alright in ROK etc.

In 2011 I was one of the unlucky being refused entrance at Osan. We went to the approach where we had lunch with local policemen. It was two times unlucky when it became clear that all Korean participants landed from our side and all USAF (4 F16, 4 A10, U2) from the other.
It's best to get inside (runway shots are easy) and if impossible, dependant on your taste, choose one side or the other.
Korea has never been without political stress the last few years. In spite of this the people are quite relaxed. Suwon approach on both sides is easy, and close to the railway station. Why miss an opportunity to see F5s and RF-4C? Not to speak of hearing that lovely J79 engine noise...

Hi,

Contacted them to find out about the current restriction for Dutch people to visit during the Air Power Day;

"Sir, after speaking with my chain-of-command, I have been told that at the present time there are no restrictions.

I hope this information helps.

25th - 27th September?

That's quite early for them given the public airshow at Cheongju is a month later...
