Autumn in Norway, a short trip (photos, gvmt, civil & wrecks)

Post by stipjes »

Last week I spent a few days in Norway. The goal was not spotting but visiting Svarbald (Spitsbergen). On the way I was able to do some spotting. I am not a civil spotter so I have no idea what is special :-).

From Charleroi I arrived in Rygge on the 22nd. The next day I visited Oslo. The Forsvarsmuseet in the center received a new UH-1.
Image
The Tiger Moth is hiding on the first floor.
Image
On the way I passed Kjeller by train. Again the Norwegians were celebrating 100 years of KNL. I had not to much time so I skipped it. At the Gardermoen museum the UH-1 is still outside.
Image
On the western side of the airfield the police has some helicopters.
Image
From Gardermoen we went to Bodo. The preserved and stored Starfighters were seen.
Image
After Bodo we went to Tromso. It was wet and autnumn has started.
Image
Norwegian Boeings also visit Amsterdam so these pics are for the scenery.

After spending the night in Tromso we left for Longyearbyen at Svarbald, 1700 kilometers north of the Arctic circle. The Dorniers are used to transport miners around. Sometimes they fly just around the corner but because there are only 3 roads thats the only way.
Image
Airlift is a government contractor. Their contract is not extended after 2013 and they are very upset. The operate a Super Puma and a Dauphin.
Image
After a great night in Longyearbyen I went back to the airport the next day. A Mi.8 came in to pick up a part of the stuff that an An.12 brought a day before.

The Airport. New hangars (not on the pic) are being build to house more helicopters.
Image
Anyone for the serial?
Image
From the tower.
Image
The Dauphin came in just before our departure. Their AS.350 was flown to the harbour this day for shipment to Norway.
Image
After we left it started snowing in the night and the whole airfield was covered.
Image
Tromso approach.
Image
This time the weather was great!

From Tromso I flew to Oslo. But here the airport had fuel system issues. My flight was cancelled and I was put in a nice hotel ;-) along the runway.

The four big ones and who has the biggest one?

Special a/c?

I arrived home one day late but it was worth it. What a great trip it was. It is a pitty I can only post a/c here.....

The one on the Oden Icebreaker should be the SE-JHI van Kalax Flyg.

An ice bear is a bear made of ice. I think Patrick prefers Polar bears... 8)

Haha Lodewijks, always correct ;-). Polar Beer they serve in Venezuela and it tastes great! But I only saw Rudolfs in real, stuffed Polar Bears in the shops and Whalemeat in the supermarket :-). Great place 2b!
