Hi,
Is there anyone out there who has been successful in organising a base visit to Ellsworth? Apart from the obvious (contact PAO), any tips? What can you expect on a visit? Or, in case it's a no-go, are they OK with us practising our hobby there?
Thanks a bunch!
Pat

Re: Base visit Ellsworth
Hi pat,
I do not have expereience with a basevisit to Ellsworth, but I do have experience with visiting Whiteman AFB, which is comparable to Ellsworth and is the home of the B2 Spirit. I was there last year. First of all, you will get a presentation about the base's history and several tasks. After this presentation, you will drive over the base by bus and you will be able to stop and walk at a part of the main platform where you can see all the hangars, which are filled with bombers(in case of the b2, that was very, very impressive). Mostly, all the operated types of the base are positioned and you can walk around them, even around a b2 (in your case a b1 ). After this walkaround, the bus will bring you back to the base's entrance and the tour comes to an end.
I hope I helped you with your question.

Re: Base visit Ellsworth
Three years ago we did the Ellsworth base tour. It starts at the museum which is located close to the main gate. First you drive to a ICBM silo that was used for instruction. You get to go off the bus and look inside. Very impressive.
Then we drove along the various buildings at the base, but we never got near a B-1.
The base is quite open, on fencecheck there are recently taken photos of B-1's during take-off. We saw no B-1 activitity, just a C-21. We managed to read off quite a few B-1's.
Don't forget to visit the nearby Badlands National Park.
Good luck!
