Rhodes Diagores Airport 22-5 till 29-5

I have been for a one week holiday to Rhodes. This airport offers me the perfect deal between my wife going to the sun and watching planes for me. I stayed in Valsami appartment where planes are flying right above you. Valsami offers rest and a very nice swimming pool. I have been here for the second time now and can really promote there appartments, also for kids. The beach is no sand beach, but spotting from the beach is perfect.

Reading registrations from the appartments is perfect except for the german aircraft that don't have registration on the wing. I asked at booking already for a room with view on the aircraft, and they seem to understand this request. We had the most beautifull apartment, with the best view on the landing planes. I hired a bicycle for the whole week and was on the airport in 10 minutes. Rhodos offers a great variaty of planes and countries they are coming from. I will share some pictures the coming days.

I am a plane spotter and like to photograph the special planes, so I don't go for the best photo results. I am also a lazy spotter. I could get much more out of it, but I also enjoyed staying there with my wife and enjoying the island and especially the swimming pool that is really required there. One tip, tell the greek that you are from Holland saves you a lot of trouble. Don't make them think you are German, then they are really friendly.

1. The Olympic DHC8-100 can be seen many times per day. It's always the same. There was a plane switch after the weekend.

2. Transaero can be seen all days and during my stay I saw 767 / 777 / 747 as well. I have seen the Tu204 2 times.

3. Filerimos (Gross) offers a great view over Rhodes. Good for us spotters is that this offers a great view on the landings on diagoros. But it offers an even better view on Maritsa, military base (very very slow traffic). I will post the pics in a different military subject. The Ryanair is flying over our department at the moment of the picture.

4. Rhodos is a 757 heaven. I photographed my favorite aircraft how a 757 should be photographed.

Okay here some extra foto's.

5. While stuck on the middle of a very busy big road crossing with the bike, I noticed this yellow bird on short final. What can you do? Throw you bike on the floor, and make the picture. Now I know that Greek like to use the horn of their car

6. Three Jet2 757 on final right after each other. I will post the special colored one later.

7. The Skyexpress Greece can be seen many times a day. But is making really short finals that you miss it from our appartment. Only the Aegean airbusses can beat them sometimes with even shorter approaches . Something you have to see.

8. The Nordstar was really early (6 o'clock) in the morning. I went quickly to the airport. Result, plane departed with tailwind..... But lucky me, in the afternoon they send a sistership This one is the morning shot.

9. One of the locals, can be seen very often. A lot of times the N and M during our stay but also a lot of different frames.

10. One of the other Transaeros. I had to cycle as hell. I heard it on the scanner. But the russions are coming straight in to final, so you have only 5 minutes to go the best spotting location.

11. Really horrible spotting location on the coast Good thing is that a nice wind, is cooling you down a bit.

12 Novair can be seen many times. Sunday morning is the scandinavian invasion.

15 Arkia Embrear can be seen very often. This was the only moment I did not feel comfortable and left the spotters location. Too many Israelisch around talking through senders. Everyday there are many planes from Israel almost all Arkia 757 and ERJ190. I have never tried to spot at the airport fence when a Israely was around except when I took this picture.

16 Air Finland for Finnair. Finnair 757 can be seen multiple times.

17 Orbest is flying from Rhodos to scandinavian. Can be seen everyday.
