30 years AWACS @ Geilenkirchen 15-17june 2012
Dear all,
There is some information in the "base news paper" (Skywatch No1, 2012) http://www.e3a.nato.int/common/skywatch ... 012_01.pdf (page 3), that the "30 Years Jubilee Event Team" preps for successful celebration.
The dates for the event have been set, June 15 to 17.
Best regards,
Roger

Hi all,
Will the event be as great as last time with an E-6, B-52H etc on static (including a special paint NE-3A) or more like the times before that were called the "cultural components days"?
Greetings,
Henk

Re: 30 years AWACS @ Geilenkirchen 15-17june 2012
Some info from MST-Aviation , who got this from PAO Geilenkirchen:
On the Saturday (cultural festival, apparently not open to the public...) there will indeed be NO flying.
Times are NOT fixed yet, but for the Spottersday on Friday the 15th of June the timeframe of 10.00 to 16.00 hrs is mentioned.
3 Awacs on static display, the base hopes to have between 25 to 30 visiting aircraft for, again, static display.
Most confirmations of visiting aircraft only expected after the 1st of May or so.

A grand total of 250 tickets will be distributed among various "official" spotter groups for 15 euros a piece. So NO "individual registration" possible for the Spotters' Day on Friday the 15th of June.
During that festival there will also be a static display of aircraft. The cultural festival is limited open to the public.

Re: 30 years AWACS @ Geilenkirchen 15-17june 2012
Back in 2007 the Feldjäger/German Military Police were quite tolerant to the masses of spotters on the eastern end of the Geilenkirchen runway during the Friday arrivals of that years' event.
In fact, they weren't being difficult at all!
So, don't despair, there's still hope...

Hi all,
from vanlion on mst-aviation :
"Dear Aviation enthusiast,
This year the NATO E-3 Component will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a cultural festival. During that festival there will also be a static display of aircraft. The cultural festival is limited open to the public. In order to give spotters and aviation enthusiasts the opportunity to take pictures of the fly-in of the participating aircraft, a spottersday will be held on the 15th of June 2012.
There are only 250 tickets available and registration is only possible in groups. Spotting Groups can forward the required amount of tickets to spottersday30yrsgk@googlemail.com latest 30 April 2012. You will be informed latest 1 week after that on how many tickets your group is granted.
The price for entrance is Euro 15 per person. Groups will be responsible for collecting the money and pay for the total group. The rule is that if you request 25 spot, and you will be granted 25 spots, you will be held accountable to pay 25x Euro15.
Ultimately the 30th may groups have to turn in the list of participants, including Name, date of birth and ID number.
Since it is not possible for us to invite all the groups individually, we encourage individuals to cross-post this message via forums as much as possible.
On behalf of the Base Commander,
Organizing committee for the Spottersday,
Maj Rob van Leeuwen &
Capt Nico Olie"
Regards.

"The cultural festival is limted open to the public." Does this mean that on these days no spotters are allowed or just a certain amount of people in total ?
Would be a pitty if only a few are able to enjoy it ....

@ K-9;
Do you have a badge that says; I'm a spotter?
How will they be able to know who is spotter and who not?

No not a badge, but a large tattoo on my forehead ....Shirley wrote:@ K-9;

I would say, spotters are easy to spot, having more (photo)equipment than most others.
Will look into the german dresscode ..
