Langkawi Malaysia - LIMA 2011
Hi,
We have just returned from a visit to Malaysia and the LIMA event and I would like to share some shots to give an impression of what the show was like.
A type that always impresses is the Su-30. The RMAF sent 3 Su-30MKMs to the event. One of them flew a display each day.
The Republic of Singapore Air Force sent 3 F-16s and an S-70. They also participated in the air show with a display of an F-16C, releasing a lot of white smoke before departure.
Only 8 F/A-18Ds have been delivered to Malaysia. One of these was present in the static display.
During the opening ceremonies 2 F-5s (an F-5E and an F-5F) buzzed the airport. This F-5E was captured during a rehearsal before the event actually opened.
The Royal Thai Air Force sent 2 of their Gripens to Malaysia, one of which is seen here under the scorching sun.
The Royal Air Force Typhoon did not take part in the static display. A display was performed by the Typhoons that were at RMAF Butterworth for an exercise, conveniently scheduled to coincide with LIMA 2011.
A typical Asian backdrop on this take-off shot of a USNavy F/A-18F. Two Rhinos were present and it looked like they were used extensively to give joyrides in the back seat.
The RMAF Smokey Bandits team visited the event obviously. Their MiG-29s are seen here on the flightline and during their display.
Regards,
Stefan

Nice ones Stefan! Malaysia has an interesting Air Force, I can tell by experience.
Any luck with the base visits? I saw an F/A-18D approaching Butterworth somewhere...
Hans.

Re: Langkawi Malaysia - LIMA 2011
Great selection Stefan!
Here is my pick on LIMA 2011:
All 3 AS.365N3 helicopters of Maritim Malaysia were present during our visit, M70-01 was put on static display.
These two, M70-02 (in background) and M70-03, flew missions twice a day from Langkawi airport:
One Hawk Mk.108 was put on static, M40-04:
As was this MB339CM (M34-18):
A nice treat was a pair of Gripens from the Thai Airforce. Seen here is the JAS-39C coded 70105:
To bring tooth brushes and pyjama's, this C-130H-30 (coded 60104) came in on monday and departed later that same day:
Singapore AF Fokker 50, s/n 712, departing after dropping of some people:
The dynamic part of the airshow:
At exactly 11:30am the first day of the airshow was opened by an "airfield attack" by an F-5E (s/n M29-05) and F-5F (s/n M29-18), both flown from Butterworth:
Star of the airshow was the local Su.30MKM. Seen here is M52-12. Spare a/c was M52-11, and M52-14 was put on static:
A great take off by the Super Hornet. Two are present at LIMA. Seen here is a F/A-18F from VFA-122 during take off:
Biggest aircraft in LIMA skies was this USAF C-17A, 05-5152, from Hickam AFB:
Concluding the dynamic part of the show: 5 'Smokey Bandits' TUDM MiG.29N / NUB aircraft:
To all those still there at Langkawi: enjoy the great show!!

Nice ones, guys!
Stefan, I think you also have them crisp, clear and sharp, but Lucien Photoshops them just as I do.
As we say in Groningen, "kon minder!"
Hans.
