I'm not 100% into NOTAMs, but this seems a not so good message for any fighter visit at Gilze Rijen, right?

Don't they need this also for the Open days in case of emergency?? (if i remember correctly with the Blue's in Leeuwarden)... In that case, i wonder if there will be a sollution for it.. or else no more Opendays on Gilze??

Of course, there's always mobile arresting gear kits that can be installed quickly (for Open Days, for instance); also, it doesn't mention what (if anything) happens with the gear on the other runway. Does anyone know if that's still in place?

Apart from that, the odds are that in normal operation, full stops and/or emergency landings for fighters will become a thing of the past as arresting gear is a prerequisite for this...

Guess the gear will stay in place but not operational. Now the need a crew to check the gear every day and change it when the runway is changed.

I dont think thats the main reason. To check the arresting system takes only a couple of minutes and is a job for the fire brigade.

Not having an arrestor cable doesn't mean that fighters won't visit anymore. Eindhoven hasn't installed its cable for years now, but we have plenty of fighters visiting!!

So, don't worry, I don't think it'll be a whole lot of difference wether or not the cable is operational.

I think you're right about this, Stephan but when there is an emergency in progress the aircraft will not be directed to Gilze anymore from now on...
