Hi all
Just planning out , our return visit to Japan next year.
A couple of locations , that I have not seen reports for.
If any one could inform me about the viewing locations & their quality, at these two Navy bases , it would be very much appreciated
Best regards

Re: Maizuru & ominato request
I have never been at Ominato nor Maizuru but I've found some info on Ominato.
Main gate is on the northeastern perimeter, it has two gate guards. From this gate drive north and take a road to the left that will bring you to a "new" housing complex. This road is along the perimeter fence and has one spot where it's possible to have a view over the field. Photographing only possible (lots of mm) near the two runway ends.
I know someone who has visited Maizuru. I will contact him for info.

Re: Maizuru & ominato request
And there he is. It's been five years, but in December 2006 the closest I could get was here. I logged nothing at that spot however, as nothing was flying at the time (I did not stay) and the apron/runway area is somewhat higher than the road. I did log two Seahawks the day before: one from my hotel on the northern edge of the city and one from the northernmost civil quay in the bay: here. The latter helo even came close enough for photos, manouevring around the base.

Re: Maizuru & ominato request
Good day
Cheers for your replies , Ominato is a afternoon look , in between a Misawa morning double header !, so no problems there !.
Maizuru however is a 1st of the day visit !. So maybe will have to re-arrange schedule ?.
Are there any vantage points around , higher than the base ?.(1-2km away)
So maybe can pole off as
they are being dragged out of hanger ?
Cheers for your help
Regards

Some of the city waterfront buildings definitely are, like the hotels. Probably not very difficult to gain access and take the elevator...Custard Gannet wrote:Are there any vantage points around , higher than the base ?.(1-2km away)
