The Russian Defence Minister Anatoly Serdiukov has disproved news reports that the Russian Knights and Swifts elite aerobatic teams will be disbanded and merged into one.
“The news media are reporting on something I’ve never known about”, the Defence Minister said during a show of military and special-purpose vehicles at Bronnitsy, near Moscow, earlier today.
The Russian Knights and Swifts are based at the Kubinka airfield, 60 kilometers away from Moscow. The pilots of the teams were the first in the Soviet Union to master solo and team jet fighter aerobatics. They flew over Moscow in flight formation for the first time on May 1st 1946.
