LMB & 298 sqn training near Ginkel
Hi everybody,
Today I decided to take my work outside the office and catch some fresh air. While walking the Ginkelse Heide I ran into the Luchtmobiele Brigade doing training with a CH-47D from 298 sqn, and purely coincidentally I happened to have my fully equipped camera bag with me. Just my lucky day !
In between telephone calls (work!!) I managed to shoot the following shots.
Don't you just love work ?
Iwan

Thanks Cris,Crizz wrote:Nice Iwan, what happen to #1? Looks sharp but also a bit hazy to me.
#1 is not razor sharp at all points. I guess it is because it was taken with 1/60 shutterspeed at 100mm zoom, and this photo is uncropped. Background blur and rotor blur are increadible, but this blurred the cockpit area just very slightly too. Oh, and there was enormous back light as well.... Nice mix of components eh ?
Cheers,
Iwan

Don't forget the "wave-hand" blur in that shot Iwan!Iwan Bogels wrote:Thanks Cris,Crizz wrote:Nice Iwan, what happen to #1? Looks sharp but also a bit hazy to me.

Very nicely done! I just love that first shot with the pilot waving and I think that the slight unsharpness in the nose area only enhances (together with the very blurred background) the feel of speed.
I haven't done any "heide shots" myself yet but these pictures (even taking the grey weather into account) certainly inspire me.

It were some entertaining 2 hours spent at our office guys! Too bad I had to leave for some other business half way... Iwan, I love your 2nd shot! It looks like they were leaving the Chinook very smooth but they didn't

Interesting shots... a very nice opportunity again!
@Iwan. Although, all quite sharp I would expect more of you Iwan in terms of quality. You may have some excuses like work disturbing you and back light scene... Couldnt you go and stand somewhere else, less back light??
For me, number 1 doesnt work really though... too much is blurred and the white doesnt make it better. But thats my thought.
Yours look better to me, Marcel, although they lack a bit of saturation... (een beetje "flets").
Otherwise nice shooting in the office there!!

I'd rather depict atmosphere and the 'heat of the moment' making a catchy photo than to reflect the real situation and real colours showing a boring photo.

Hi Corné,
Thanks for your message. It's always good to receive constructive comments.
As to your question: Yes, we could have chosen another position, but then we would have been without any trees in the background. In my opinion the trees give the images the atmosphere that they have now. Next to that it would still have been a highly lit background and a very dark helicopter......
Keep the remarks coming !
Cheers,
Iwan
