Forum rules
This is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum. Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post. In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.). Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so. |

Re: Koksijde 07-07-2011
Nice captures Sven, I think you did really good on the crossingshots there. Was the performance of the TB's without any rays of sun?
1. Your Apache shot is timed perfectly, i suggest you try and slow down the shutterspeed on helishots to get more rotorblur, which will make your picture more dynamic. The flare really is a great extra and lights up parts of the fuselage. I think Koksijde has very good lighting conditions for the more challenging kind of photography, shooting outside "the box"
2. Crossing is sublime! Welldone! Your focuspoint or focus area probably covers the white part of the plane and your meter detects a lot of white, so your camera automatically closes the aperture (in Tv mode) or speeds up the shutterspeed (in Av mode) to compensate for the amount of "light" (white planes tend to reflect more light). Crank up your exposure compensation +1 (more or less) to overrule the camera and get a better exposure. Your 40D does this by turning the main wheel on the back in the appropriate direction. Just make sure you have this wheel active (power switch full up position, doing it in LR, PS or PE afterwards is possible too offcourse )
3. Nice angle on te Mil-Mi, colorful and a better shutterspeed, the tailrotor is getting more blurry!
4. Well timed crossing, too bad we get to see 2 undersides, would have loved to see a canopy.
5. Flareshots are always a joy!
I can't really comment on sharpness cause I'm on my iPhone, keep them coming though

Thanks Andras for your comments and feedback. It's very welcome!
Thanks again!

Yesterdays show of the Thunderbids was preformed with some bad weather ahead. The show lasted 10 minutes shorter compared to Wednesday! I think the stopped halfway through the show because of some heavy rainfall: 5 minutes after landing all hell broke lose and we had some very, very heavy rain for ten minutes or so.Andras wrote:Was the performance of the TB's without any rays of sun?
Normaly I shoot helo's with m canon at a shutterspeed of 1/160th or even 1/125th. However, during the popping of the flares in the loop my photos get blurry. A higher shutter somehow solves this...!?Andras wrote:1. Re: Koksijde 07-07-2011
Hmm..interesting, maybe AI Servo is fooled by having to focus on a turning rotorhead/blades and some unsharpness is the result?Sven van Roij wrote:

The shutterspeeds you use should give enough rotor blur so keep doing that!
(For full disc stuff you need to drop below 1/60th usually, all depending on RPM. But your keeperrate can drop significantly, but you know this..
Some very nice shots guys, too bad I had to miss this show, enough good photo-oppertunities judging the results!

Re: Koksijde 07-07-2011
Wow, again, some very cool angles and light circumstances..
@Melchior, your welcome I just try to highlight the positive stuff if someone asks for c&c.. But these days I usually watch only, because most people wanna show what they did and it's their view, so I do not comment unless asked for. (photo technically)
@Roel, I love your Hungarian Mig-29 landing (offcourse) care to share that one ? Or was it another day ?
To all, I will take a closer look this weekend cause I probably forget to credit the rest for
their sharp work, I'm just to tired to sit behind my computer.. -New babies are very exhausting, they need food in the middle of the night !
