London-Stansted 24-04-2011

Post by LifelinerOne »

Sunday I had to myself and I used that day to go visit the Imperial War Museum at Duxford (see other topic) and later in the evening I had a business meeting at Stansted, which was also was the place my organisation booked a hotelroom for me.

Stansted is a very frustrating airport for the spotter, as well as a very boring one. I spotted from Belmer Road, on the North-side of the airport, late in the afternoon. There is a very high fence, but if you walk along the fence for a while, the planes can be pictured when they are above the fence after take-off. Traffic is also quite boring; easyJet and Ryanair. And, Ryanair and easyJet.

Nice exception was this Spanish Legacy:

As was this Thomsonfly B737-800:

Hope to make a better picture soon of this airline:

While driving to my hotel, I decided to give the hangar-area a go and found this TriStar near the Titan-hangar. The photo could be made by poking the camera trough a crash gate:

After that I went back to Belmer Road to lay down in the grass and soaking up some sunrays (it was hot!) and catch some special stickered Ryanairs like this one:

In the evening I stood on the mounds near my hotel (Hilton) as the sun was in my back where the only highlight for that half hour was this nice 146:

Cheers!

Hmm, I have been to Stansted for three times and I never experienced it as a boring airport..I assume you didn't see Air Asia X or FedEx then?

I will be heading for Stansted probably in June, to see some new Ryanair airframes.

Anyway, nice report :)

If you go for numbers, and need your Ryanairs, I agree it is a nice place to go. If you go for nice pictures, I can imagine the Ryanairs and easyJets get boring at some point. Nice pictures though.

Yeah, I did see FedEx, a Triple Seven, parked for the whole time during my visit. If you're a numbercruncher I agree that Stansted can be nice. If you are just a photographer like me, it can be boring. Air Asia X was delayed untill deep in the night, so didn't see that one.

Cheers!

I took some shots of this one when she got returned to the owner after the C-check in Summerside. PEI, Canada.

This pic was taken during a testflight on March 24.
She left for Europe on March 25.

Hmm, perhaps I had more luck during my visit, as I also saw Aegean, Europe Airpost, Air Berlin, El Al (moved to Luton instead), Albanian Airlines, KTHY (bankrupt) and Jet2. Besides Air Asia X, 2x FedEx MD-11F all within 2,5 hours :)
