Ok that sucks

My spidy sense tells me that the WTO dispute probably played a role in the decision although they said it didn't....

You could not expect anything else, given the previous exercises...

Indeed, but although many are not happy with this result it means job security to a lot of Boeing employees and those are not only Americans,..

Which i'm thankfull for!

I guess those DOD official who do the acquisition can't afford mistakes after 10 years. I find it pathatic how those pro Boeing senetars acted in all this, bunch of wankers.

The very last question yesterday was a good one. Something like 'How do you explain that Boeing is the clear winner in the competition, while in te previous competition for the same plane EADS was the clear winner?' They couldn't give a suitable reply and left the scene in a hurry..

I'd say: Europe stop the with the JSF and buy European. Praise the US for their point of view and reply to them in the same manner. Mind you that Europe has twice the number of inhabitants, the Euro is a stronger currency and that if we realise that we can play the same game on their rules and be better in it.

It eventually boiled down to less fuel consumption and price for Boeing KC-46A. Even both candidates met all mandatory requirements they simply did the arithmetic. The EADS KC-45A is a heavier airplane and 24% more fuel burn. The US taxpayer gets more bang for its bucks.

And that's what counts. No matter who won the previous competition, or the one before that: this is what really matters in air tanking. And that's why a converted C-5 wouldn't make a good airtanker ;-)

Question remains if the changed requirements (for the tanker, compared with the previous game) came from an operational point of view, or that it was addapted to suit a specific design. We'll never know I gues. Bigger secrets have been kept secret for years.

Very well put (.......) But how can you be sure about the last?
putting it in the perspective...
The USCG has the purchased a fleet of new HC-144s as for replacement of the HU-25s.
and EC145s (UH-72) as UH-1 replacement, (oke, building in the US)
and the Itai C-27...

that said: EADS top will be displeased and the value of shares may suffer as a result of the tanker outcome. that's bad news.

That's business.
