http://bahamilitary.fotopic.net/p39233658.htmlBetween November 21st and December 19th, 2010, Belgian Defence in collaboration with the Congolese Army, is setting up and expedition to search for the wreck of the Piasecki H-21 Workhorse FG- 378 helicopter which crashed with its Belgian crew in North Eastern Congo in 1964.
The helicopter disappeared mysteriously near Stanleyville (now Kisangani) in a time of growing unrest. The (Belgian) crew composed of pilots Adj Robert Jacobs and Adj Frans Allaeys and technician Raymond Bardon is still reported as missing. The military base at Koksijde is still called “Basis Adjudant Vlieger Frans Allaeys” to honour one of the crew members. .
Exhaustive background story in Belgian newspaper "De Standaard" in 2009:Force Aérienne Congolaise Piasecki H-21 FG378 went missing in Congo on 27 June 1965 during a humanitarian mission on a flight between Buta and Stanleyville.
On board were Adj. R. Jacobs, Kpt. R. Bordon and Adj. Frans Allaeys detached from the Belgian Air Force.
Only recently the wreckage of the ill fated helicopter was discovered in the jungle. During a ceremony on 27 September 1990 Koksijde airbase was officially named "Basis Adjudant Vlieger Frans Allaeys". Artwork by Fernand Van de Plas
