This thread is perhaps a tad "heavily laden" with photos but they were worth the wait...

Re: Log Florida November 2010 - Propliners and Old Jets.
Your first "unknown type" must be some kind of "movie prop".
The cockpit/fuselage part has all the hallmarks of a Grumman HU-16 Albatros with an wholly imaginary nose turret scabbed on.
I cannot think of a single multi-engine type from the 1930/1940/1950s that had this shape of glazed nose, let alone with upwards pointed machine guns (B-17/B-25 do not qualify either).
Your second "unknown type" is a "flying egg", or more officially an IAI Arava ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IAI_Arava ).

Re: Log Florida November 2010 - Propliners and Old Jets.
Thanks, now that you mention a HU-16 I can clearly see the resemblance. My first thought was a museum display of some sort, but I guess a movie-prop very well could be what it is destined for.
Also thanks for identifying the Arava. Should have known that myself

Nice report from Florida.
The unknown type at FLL is an Israeli Aircraft Industries Arava is a light STOL utility transport aircraft built in Israel by IAI in the late 1960s. Only used by Air Forces.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IAI_Arava
Will ask my friends from Florida which registration this one has.

Re: Log Florida November 2010 - Propliners and Old Jets.
Hi Invader26,
great report! I've been seriously considering returning to Florida over the Christmas break to catch more of those propliners before they all disappear, and your photos only make me want to go more...
As to your questions:
Daytona Beach:
Convairs CV240 N295M, N7761, N12905, and N22913 have all been scrapped, cf. http://www.prop-liners.com/desert.htm
I'm not sure about N1020C, but considering the state it was in in the most recent photo I can find (http://www.airliners.net/photo/Trans-Fl ... 0736841/L/) I don't assume it has survived (although I wasn't expecting any of the ex-KDAB Convairs to turn up at Orlando-Apopka either - did you stumble across that by accident?!).
New Smyrna:
N112CH: no news, but I believe it's been missing from KEVB for a while now
N6154T: is the front fuselage you saw (cf. http://www.joebaugher.com/usaf_serials/1961.html)
N16CA: cut up, cf. http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/photo/467431.html
N16ZE: cut up, cf. http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/photo/467430.html
One of these two will have been the dark green contraption you saw.
Titusville:
NC28340 is still officially registered as N11EL, but AFAIK it was acquired by the VAC specifically to be used for parts recovery, and so if they have cut up N8040L, then I don't hold any hopes out for this one...
I'm sorry but I cannot help you with the more modern frames.
Could you please tell us a little more about airport access these days? It seems you took quite a lot of your photos from outside the fence. Were you not allowed access? And Opa Locka seems to have worked out as far as Mr Gomez' ramp was concerned, but not the rest of the field?
Best,
XL446

Hmm... that's strange since I was told by a museum volunteer that it arrived only a few weeks earlier and that there was a clause saying the museum aren't allowed to fly it for the next four years.jah wise wrote: No it's not. It's not long ago it was spraying "crops" in South America.
There are several photos of this bird on the web, try google the registration. For instance, here she is at Williams-Gateway, October 2007:

Sorry to say, but I doubt you saw it at VAC Titusville in 94! Please feel free to post the picture you took.

Fact is, that this was a family vacation so (believe it or not) prop-hunting was only a secondary priority when moving from A-B. Most of the time I had the family sitting in the car.. .waiting patiently. Taking this into consideration, I didn't do much of an effort to go airside (except for one visit to KOPF and the Florida Air Transport ramp as you mentioned).XL446 wrote: Could you please tell us a little more about airport access these days?
