That is of course because of the nice colors :)

It was not Iwan's main purpose to capture choppers in an exeptional angle this time..

Nice pictures Iwan but i think that the Apache is blowing up your car from the farmers field next time. :mrgreen:

Hi Bas,

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. I didn't change anything in the photo, so if anything looks different between this morning and this afternoon it could be that you use another screen, or the lighting in the room is just different.

Hi Iwan, nice shots. If the Indian Summer effects were what you were after than I can say that the Apache pics specifically must have made you smile from ear to ear. I bet it took a lot of cleaning of sensors and lenses after your previous experience with the helo's in the brown out.
So what is next? Waiting for the first white out in December or January?

Unfortunately my options were limited. There are only two very narrow areas where you can shoot with coloured trees in the background. Any different angle will show hangers and buildings in the background, which is something which I wanted to avoid at any cost. The "Apache-background" can only be shot when the helicopter is flying between the western and eastern slope (v.v.). Both Cougars and the Apache only did one landing on the western slope, so not much play time there. Both Cougars landed on top op the western slope, which is no good for the intended background. The Apache landed on the side of the slope, which was just inside the envelope.

The eastern slope has very limited coloured backgroud. The trees are a lot lower and the colours are not as vivid as near the western slope. The Chinook used only the eastern slope, and unfortunately didn't turn towards me at all. This left me with the side shots that I have shown. If I can find it I will post some visual illustrations of the problem. But I just don't have a lot of time now.

You are right about the smile. Maybe the Apache shot will be my first poster print for a very long time.

What's next ?? Well, maybe Wales, as there have been some last minute issues that may require me to go there ASAP. Otherwise a white out does seem like a great plan. I'll start praying to the snow gods soon.... ;-)

What about you ? Have you done anything exciting lately ? Or any plans to do so ?

Lovely colors Iwan, first shot is a real treat. Nice to see such sharpness @ 1/10th! :) Cool stuff and these give a good autumn impression!

Look what I found !!

Here is a bird's eye view of the slopes area.

Red = Slopes' bottom edges
Blue = Autumn coloured trees
Purple = Fence / available photo positions
Yellow = Avoidable back- and foreground

The right hand blue treeline is relatively low coloured, while the left hand blue treeline is the excitingly coloured treeline. The trees on the left of the near long yellow line are still completely green, so no use for autumn photos. The two yellow boxes on the bottom have dense bushes / trees that prevent any clear, decent or even moderate shot, so positioning on the purple line is the only option for photography at the slopes.

As you can see in the photos below, the slopes are pretty high, especially when you consider that I was 7 steps up on a high ladder when I took these shots ! This leaves only the extreme right part of the left purple line for great autumn shots without hangars and metal shelters in the background. The right hand slope is higher and the right hand treeline is lower and less colourful. So pick your chances.....
