Axalp 2010
Forum rules
This is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum. Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post. In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.). Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so. |

Re: Axalp 2010
Thanks for editing my picture, it looks so much more awesome after the edit, it seems i still have a lot to learn about making the best out of my images.Bendavid2 wrote:It's true not all pictures are razor sharp. I think it that have a few reasons. First of all 1/800 seconds is just on the edge of good shutter speeds to have 99% sharp. the 2nd and much more important reason is the lens. The HSM (HyperSonicMotor) of you lens (150-500) is not so fast and you are often (a bit) out of focus. Most helicopter shots are sharp (the are not so fast). Since you are often at F/8 the sharpness of you lens isn't a problem. If you try to have rotor blur don;t go to f/16 but go to iso100. Sharpness will become worse at higher f-number than f/13 often (due diffraction).
Another major point is try to do (more) Photoshop. The horizon isn't a problem but a little bit more sharpness and contrast are. I did a bit photoshopping on your best (,in my opinion,)picture. I did a little bit oversharped the picture to get it sharp but now I think the picture is awesome!
I only did some quick editing in lightroom, but mostly i still have to find out the right way to get to the right result.
Re: Axalp 2010
Some nice pictures already here I see. But I had expected a bit more considering the amount of people on both show days.
I myself only went up the mountain on Tuesday and spend the rest of the time around the airbases. Probably should have spend more days at Axalp as the weather up there was great all week. I haven't had much time yet to sort out all pictures but here a selection of the Axalp show on Tuesday.

Re: Axalp 2010
Ive walked from the bottom of the Gibraltar Rock to the top, and on the otherside down again.
can that be compared to the Axalp climb?
In Gibraltar i was wearing Vans Slip-on shoes, and no socks (the idea was to take the car till we found out it cost 55 euros to get up with a car, hence the choice of shoes),when we arrived at the first pub of the town i crashed and did not stand up for like 3 hours.

Ok, quite long time after the event to post my photos .... but I think also of some interest
I was two weeks on and around the area and begin with some shots of the preparations on the shooting Range.
Super Puma T-312 installed a new designed stair on 6th of october
For that some personel had to be transportet with some nice Fly-Byes - Picture in BIG

Also the shooting had already begun - and the Tigers flew with external fuel in grey and red FLUNT's
Picture in BIG
Fighter Squadron 8 flew due political reasons out of Sion again - but for the three photographers this pilot made two nice low passes inbetween Tower and Axalphorn
Real Pilots flyes without TomTom
More will follow tomorrow

Re: Axalp 2010
Nice nice nice, guys!
Made the same decision as Vinflyer: only went up on Tuesday, and the other day in a cloudy valley: I wonder what I was thinking.
Here's my edited set for now, more to follow soon

Re: Axalp 2010
The surprise of this years training was the French Armeé de l'Air Alphajet - two nice Fly-Byes from the west and after each, like the pilot had never made something different, a left-turn through the little valley at the Axalphorn !
Never checked that this a/c is so little - never grew much bigger on my 300mm+2xConverter-Lens
